சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

ஒரே ஒரு மனிதன் வழியாய்ப் பாவம் இந்த உலகத்தில் நுழைந்தது; அந்தப் பாவத்தின் வழியாய்ச் சாவு வந்தது. அதுபோலவே, எல்லா மனிதரும் பாவம் செய்ததால், எல்லா மனிதரையும் சாவு கவ்விக்கொண்டது.

எவ்வாறெனில், ஒருவர் செய்த குற்றத்தால் பலரும் இறந்தனர். ஆனால் கடவுளின் அருளும் இயேசு கிறிஸ்து என்னும் ஒரே மனிதரின் வழியாய் வரும் அருள்கொடையும் பலருக்கும் மிகுதியாய்க் கிடைத்தது.

மேலும் ஒருவர் குற்றத்தாலே, அந்த ஒருவர் வழியாகச் சாவு ஆட்சி செலுத்தினதென்றால் அருள்பெருக்கையும் கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்புடையவராகும் கொடையையும் இயேசு கிறிஸ்து என்னும் ஒருவர் வழியாக அடைந்துகொண்டவர்கள் வாழ்வு பெற்று ஆட்சி செலுத்துவார்கள் என இன்னும் மிக உறுதியாய் நம்பலாம் அன்றோ?

ஆகவே ஒருவரின் குற்றம் எல்லா மனிதருக்கும் தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்பாய் அமைந்ததுபோல், ஒரே ஒருவரின் ஏற்புடைய செயல் எல்லா மனிதருக்கும் வாழ்வளிக்கும் விடுதலைத் தீர்ப்பாய் அமைந்தது. ஒரு மனிதரின் கீழ்ப்படியாமையால் பலர் பாவிகளானதுபோல், ஒருவரின் கீழ்ப்படிதலால் பலர் கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்புடையவர்கள் ஆவார்கள்.

ஆனால் பாவம் பெருகிய இடத்தில் அருள் பொங்கி வழிந்தது. இவ்வாறு, சாவின் வழியாய்ப் பாவம் ஆட்சி செலுத்தியதுபோல், நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் வழியாய் அருள் ஆட்சி செய்கிறது; அந்த அருள்தான் மனிதர்களைக் கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்புடையவர்களாக்கி, நிலைவாழ்வு பெற வழிவகுக்கிறது.

Divine grace, coming through Jesus Christ, came as an abundant free gift

A reading from the letter of St.Paul to the Romans 5 :12, 15b, 17-19, 20b-21

Brethren: Just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— If many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

அக்காலத்தில்

கூட்டத்தில் இருந்த ஒருவர் இயேசுவிடம், “போதகரே, சொத்தை என்னோடு பங்கிட்டுக்கொள்ளுமாறு என் சகோதரருக்குச் சொல்லும்” என்றார். அவர் அந்த ஆளை நோக்கி, “என்னை உங்களுக்கு நடுவராகவோ பாகம் பிரிப்பவராகவோ அமர்த்தியவர் யார்?” என்று கேட்டார். பின்பு அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “எவ்வகைப் பேராசைக்கும் இடங்கொடாதவாறு எச்சரிக்கையாய் இருங்கள். மிகுதியான உடைமைகளைக் கொண்டிருப்பதால் ஒருவருக்கு வாழ்வு வந்துவிடாது” என்றார்.

அவர்களுக்கு அவர் ஓர் உவமையைச் சொன்னார்: “செல்வனாயிருந்த ஒருவனுடைய நிலம் நன்றாய் விளைந்தது. அவன், ‘நான் என்ன செய்வேன்? என் விளைபொருள்களைச் சேர்த்து வைக்க இடமில்லையே!’ என்று எண்ணினான். ‘ஒன்று செய்வேன்; என் களஞ்சியங்களை இடித்து இன்னும் பெரிதாகக் கட்டுவேன்; அங்கு என் தானியத்தையும் பொருள்களையும் சேர்த்து வைப்பேன்'. பின்பு, “என் நெஞ்சமே, உனக்குப் பல்லாண்டுகளுக்கு வேண்டிய பலவகைப் பொருள்கள் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன; நீ ஓய்வெடு; உண்டு குடித்து, மகிழ்ச்சியில் திளைத்திடு எனச் சொல்வேன்” என்று தனக்குள் கூறிக்கொண்டான். ஆனால் கடவுள் அவனிடம், ‘அறிவிலியே, இன்றிரவே உன் உயிர் உன்னைவிட்டுப் பிரிந்துவிடும். அப்பொழுது நீ சேர்த்து வைத்தவை யாருடையவையாகும்?’ என்று கேட்டார். கடவுள் முன்னிலையில் செல்வம் இல்லாதவராய்த் தமக்காகவே செல்வம் சேர்ப்பவர் இத்தகையோரே.”

கடவுளின் வாக்குறுதியைப் பற்றி ஆபிரகாம் ஐயப்படவே இல்லை; நம்பிக்கையில் அவர் மேலும் வலுப்பெற்றார்; கடவுளைப் பெருமைப்படுத்தினார். தாம் வாக்களித்ததைக் கடவுள் செய்ய வல்லவர் என்பதை அவர் உறுதியாய் அறிந்திருந்தார். ஆகவே “அதை ஆண்டவர் அவருக்கு நீதியாகக் கருதினார்."

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 12:13-21 

A man in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Master, tell my brother to give me a share of our inheritance.’ ‘My friend,’ he replied, ‘who appointed me your judge, or the arbitrator of your claims?’ Then he said to them, ‘Watch, and be on your guard against avarice of any kind, for a man’s life is not made secure by what he owns, even when he has more than he needs.’

  Then he told them a parable: ‘There was once a rich man who, having had a good harvest from his land, thought to himself, “What am I to do? I have not enough room to store my crops.” Then he said, “This is what I will do: I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and store all my grain and my goods in them, and I will say to my soul: My soul, you have plenty of good things laid by for many years to come; take things easy, eat, drink, have a good time.” But God said to him, “Fool! This very night the demand will be made for your soul; and this hoard of yours, whose will it be then?” So it is when a man stores up treasure for himself in place of making himself rich in the sight of God.’

We must believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead

A reading from the letter of St.Paul to the Romans 4: 20-25 

Since God had made him a promise, Abraham refused either to deny it or even to doubt it, but drew strength from faith and gave glory to God, convinced that God had power to do what he had promised. This is the faith that was ‘considered as justifying him.’ Scripture however does not refer only to him but to us as well when it says that his faith was thus ‘considered’; our faith too will be ‘considered’ if we believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, Jesus who was put to death for our sins and raised to life to justify us.
