இதோ இன்று நான் ஆசியையும் சாபத்தையும் உங்களுக்கு முன் வைக்கிறேன்.

மோசே மக்களைப் பார்த்துக் கூறியது: இதோ பார், வாழ்வையும் நன்மையையும், சாவையும் தீமையையும் இன்று நான் உனக்கு முன்பாக வைத்துள்ளேன். அது இதுதான்; இன்று நான் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகிறேன். உன் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர்மீது அன்பு பாராட்டு. அவரைப் பின்பற்றி அவரது வழியில் நட. அவரது கட்டளைகளையும், நியமங்களையும், முறைமைகளையும் கடைப்பிடி. அப்போது நீ வாழ்வாய், நீ பலுகுவாய். நீ உடைமையாகக் கொள்ளப்போகும் நாட்டில் உன் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் உனக்கு ஆசி வழங்குவார்.

ஆனால் உனது உள்ளம் விலகிச் சென்று, நீ செவிகொடாமல் கெட்டலைந்து, வேறு தெய்வங்களை வணங்கி, அவற்றுக்குப் பணிவிடை புரிந்தால், இன்று நான் உனக்கு அறிக்கையிட்டுக் கூறுகிறேன். நீ நிச்சயம் அழிந்து போவாய். நீ உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்ளுமாறு, யோர்தானைக் கடந்து சென்றடையும் பூமியில் உன் வாழ்நாள் நீடித்திருக்காது.

உன்மேல் இன்று நான் விண்ணையும் மண்ணையும் சான்றாக அழைத்து, வாழ்வையும் சாவையும், ஆசியையும் சாபத்தையும் உனக்கு முன் வைக்கிறேன். நீயும் உனது வழித்தோன்றல்களும் வாழும்பொருட்டு வாழ்வைத் தேர்ந்துகொள். உன் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர்மீது அன்பு பாராட்டு; அவரது குரலுக்குச் செவிகொடு; அவரையே பற்றிக்கொள். ஏனெனில், அவரே உனது வாழ்வு; அவரே உன் நீடிய வாழ்வு. அதனால், ஆபிரகாம், ஈசாக்கு, யாக்கோபு என்னும் உன் மூதாதையருக்குக் கொடுப்பதாக ஆண்டவர் ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறிய நாட்டில் நீ குடியேறுவாய்.

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.” And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?”

Moses spoke to the people, saying, “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “மக்கள் பார்க்க வேண்டுமென்று அவர்கள் முன் உங்கள் அறச் செயல்களைச் செய்யாதீர்கள். இதைக் குறித்து நீங்கள் எச்சரிக்கையாய் இருங்கள். இல்லையென்றால் உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையிடமிருந்து உங்களுக்குக் கைம்மாறு கிடைக்காது.

நீங்கள் தர்மம் செய்யும்போது உங்களைப்பற்றித் தம்பட்டம் அடிக்காதீர்கள். வெளிவேடக்காரர் மக்கள் புகழ வேண்டுமென்று தொழுகைக்கூடங்களிலும் சந்துகளிலும் நின்று அவ்வாறு செய்வர். அவர்கள் தங்களுக்குரிய கைம்மாறு பெற்றுவிட்டார்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். நீங்கள் தர்மம் செய்யும்போது, உங்கள் வலக்கை செய்வது இடக்கைக்குத் தெரியாதிருக்கட்டும். அப்பொழுது நீங்கள் செய்யும் தர்மம் மறைவாயிருக்கும்; மறைவாய் உள்ளதைக் காணும் உங்கள் தந்தையும் உங்களுக்குக் கைம்மாறு அளிப்பார்.

நீங்கள் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டும்பொழுது வெளிவேடக்காரரைப் போல் இருக்க வேண்டாம். அவர்கள் தொழுகைக்கூடங்களிலும் வீதியோரங்களிலும் நின்றுகொண்டு மக்கள் பார்க்கவேண்டுமென இறைவேண்டல் செய்ய விரும்புகிறார்கள். அவர்கள் தங்களுக்குரிய கைம்மாறு பெற்றுவிட்டார்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். ஆனால் நீங்கள் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டும்பொழுது உங்கள் உள்ளறைக்குச் சென்று, கதவை அடைத்துக்கொண்டு, மறைவாய் உள்ள உங்கள் தந்தையை நோக்கி வேண்டுங்கள். மறைவாய் உள்ளதைக் காணும் உங்கள் தந்தையும் உங்களுக்குக் கைம்மாறு அளிப்பார்.

மேலும் நீங்கள் நோன்பு இருக்கும்போது வெளிவேடக்காரரைப் போல முகவாட்டமாய் இருக்க வேண்டாம். தாங்கள் நோன்பு இருப்பதை மக்கள் பார்க்க வேண்டுமென்றே அவர்கள் தங்கள் முகங்களை விகாரப் படுத்திக்கொள்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் தங்களுக்குரிய கைம்மாறு பெற்றுவிட்டார்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். நீங்கள் நோன்பு இருக்கும்போது உங்கள் தலையில் எண்ணெய் தேய்த்து, முகத்தைக் கழுவுங்கள். அப்பொழுது நீங்கள் நோன்பு இருப்பது மனிதருக்குத் தெரியாது; மாறாக, மறைவாய் இருக்கிற உங்கள் தந்தைக்கு மட்டும் தெரியும். மறைவாய் உள்ளதைக் காணும் உங்கள் தந்தையும் உங்களுக்கு ஏற்ற கைம்மாறு அளிப்பார்.”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நாங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவின் தூதுவர்களாய் இருக்கிறோம். கடவுளே எங்கள் வாயிலாக வேண்டுகோள் விடுக்கிறார். ஆகவே கடவுளோடு ஒப்புரவாகுங்கள் என்று கிறிஸ்துவின் சார்பில் நாங்கள் மன்றாடுகிறோம். நாம் கிறிஸ்து வழியாகத் தமக்கு ஏற்புடையவராகுமாறு கடவுள் பாவம் அறியாத அவரைப் பாவநிலை ஏற்கச் செய்தார்.

நீங்கள் கடவுளிடமிருந்து பெற்றுக்கொண்ட அருளை வீணாக்க வேண்டாம் என அவரோடு இணைந்து உழைக்கும் நாங்கள் கேட்டுக் கொள்கிறோம். “தகுந்த வேளையில் நான் உமக்குப் பதிலளித்தேன்; விடுதலை நாளில் உமக்குத் துணையாய் இருந்தேன்” எனக் கடவுள் கூறுகிறார். இதுவே தகுந்த காலம்! இன்றே மீட்பு நாள்!

ஆண்டவரின் ஊழியர்களாகிய குருக்கள் கோவில் மண்டபத்திற்கும் பலிபீடத்திற்கும் இடையே நின்று அழுதவண்ணம், “ஆண்டவரே, உம் மக்கள்மீது இரக்கம் கொள்ளும்; உமது உரிமைச் சொத்தை வேற்றினத்தார் நடுவில் நிந்தைக்கும் பழிச்சொல்லுக்கும் ஆளாக்காதீர்” எனச் சொல்வார்களாக! ‘அவர்களுடைய கடவுள் எங்கே?’ என வேற்றினத்தார் கூறவும் வேண்டுமோ?

அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர் தம் நாட்டின்மேல் பேரார்வம் கொண்டு தம் மக்கள் மீது கருணை காட்டினார்.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 6:1-6,16-18 

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Beware of practising your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. Brethren: We are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For he says, “In a favourable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favourable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
