ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது:

நீயோ, எப்ராத்தா எனப்படும் பெத்லகேமே! யூதாவின் குடும்பங்களுள் மிகச் சிறியதாய் இருக்கின்றாய்! ஆயினும், இஸ்ரயேலை என் சார்பாக ஆளப்போகின்றவர் உன்னிடமிருந்தே தோன்றுவார்; அவர் தோன்றும் வழிமரபோ ஊழி ஊழிக் காலமாய் உள்ளதாகும். ஆதலால், பேறுகால வேதனையில் இருப்பவள் பிள்ளை பெறும்வரை அவர் அவர்களைக் கைவிட்டு விடுவார்; அதன் பின்னர் அவருடைய இனத்தாருள் எஞ்சியிருப்போர் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களிடம் திரும்பி வருவார்கள்.

அவர் வரும்போது, ஆண்டவரின் வலிமையோடும் தம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவரது பெயரின் மாட்சியோடும் விளங்கித் தம் மந்தையை மேய்ப்பார்; அவர்களும் அச்சமின்றி வாழ்வார்கள்; ஏனெனில், உலகின் இறுதி எல்லைகள்வரை அப்போது அவர் மேன்மை பொருந்தியவராய் விளங்குவார்; அவரே அமைதியை அருள்வார்.

ஓய்வு நாளில் இயேசு குணப்படுத்துவாரா என்று கூர்ந்து கவனித்துக் கொண்டேயிருந்தனர்.

ஓய்வு நாளில் இயேசு தொழுகைக்கூடத்திற்குள் சென்று கற்பித்தார். அங்கே வலக்கை சூம்பியவர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். மறைநூல் அறிஞரும் பரிசேயரும் இயேசுவிடம் குற்றம் காணும் நோக்குடன், ஓய்வு நாளில் அவர் அவரைக் குணப்படுத்துவாரா என்று கூர்ந்து கவனித்துக் கொண்டே இருந்தனர்.

இயேசு அவர்களுடைய எண்ணங்களைஅறிந்து, கை சூம்பியவரை நோக்கி, “எழுந்து நடுவே நில்லும்!” என்றார். அவர் எழுந்து நின்றார்.

இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “உங்களிடம் ஒன்று கேட்கிறேன்: ஓய்வு நாளில் நன்மை செய்வதா, தீமை செய்வதா? உயிரைக் காப்பதா, அழிப்பதா? எது முறை?” என்று கேட்டார். பிறகு அவர் சுற்றிலும் திரும்பி அவர்கள் யாவரையும் பார்த்துவிட்டு, “உமது கையை நீட்டும்!” என்று அவரிடம் கூறினார். அவரும் அப்படியே செய்தார். அவருடைய கை நலமடைந்தது. அவர்களோ கோபவெறிகொண்டு இயேசுவை என்ன செய்யலாம் என்று ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் கலந்து பேசினர்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

உங்களிடையே பரத்தைமை உண்டெனக் கேள்விப்படுகிறேன். ஒருவன் தன் தந்தையின் மறு மனைவியை வைத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறானாம். இத்தகைய பரத்தைமை பிற இனத்தாரிடையே கூடக் காணப்படவில்லை. இதை அறிந்தும் நீங்கள் இறுமாப்புடன் இருப்பது எப்படி? துயரமடைந்திருக்க வேண்டாமா? இப்படிச் செய்தவனை உங்கள் நடுவிலிருந்து தள்ளிவைத்திருக்க வேண்டாமா? நான் உடலால் உங்களோடு இல்லாவிடினும் உள்ளத்தால் உங்களோடு இருக்கிறேன். நான் உங்களோடு இருப்பதாக எண்ணி அச்செயலைச் செய்தவனுக்கு ஏற்கெனவே தீர்ப்பு அளித்துவிட்டேன். நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசுவின் பெயரால் நீங்கள் கூடிவரும்போது நானும் உள்ளத்தால் உங்களோடு இருப்பேன். அப்போது நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசுவின் வல்லமையோடு, அத்தகையவனைச் சாத்தானிடம் ஒப்புவிக்க வேண்டும். அவனது உடல் அழிவுற்றாலும் ஆண்டவரின் நாளில் அவன் மீட்படைவதற்காக இவ்வாறு செய்வோம்.

நீங்கள் பெருமை பாராட்டுவது நல்லதல்ல. சிறிதளவு புளிப்பு மாவு, பிசைந்த மாவு முழுவதையும் புளிக்க வைக்கும் என்பது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியாதா? எனவே புளிப்புச் சத்துள்ள பழைய மாவைத் தூக்கி எறிந்துவிடுங்கள். அப்போது நீங்கள் புதிதாய்ப் பிசைந்த மாவாயிருப்பீர்கள். உண்மையில் நீங்கள் புளிப்பற்ற மாவாய்த்தான் இருக்கிறீர்கள். ஏனெனில் நம் பாஸ்கா ஆடாகிய கிறிஸ்து பலியிடப்பட்டிருக்கிறார். ஆகையால் பழைய புளிப்பு மாவைத் தவிர்க்க வேண்டும். தீமை, பரத்தைமை போன்ற புளிப்பு மாவோடு அல்ல, மாறாக நேர்மை, உண்மை போன்ற புளிப்பற்ற அப்பத்தோடு பாஸ்காவைக் கொண்டாடுவோமாக.

Brethren: It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among Gentiles, for a man has his father’s wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you. For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord. A Reading from the letter of St.Paul to the Romans 13: 8–10

Brethren: Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet”, and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbour; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
