At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt becomes bland, how can you restore flavor to it? It is no longer worth anything: it is thrown out and it is trampled by people.

You are the light of the world. A city on a mountain cannot be hidden. And one does not light a lamp to put it under a bushel; we put it on the lamppost, and it shines for everyone in the house. Likewise, let your light shine before men: then, seeing what you do well, they will give glory to your Father who is in heaven. "

FIRST READING 

“Christ Jesus was not 'yes and no'; it was only “yes” ” 

A Reading from the second letter of Saint Paul the apostle to the Corinthians (1, 18-22) 

Brothers, God is guarantor of it, the word we address to you is not "yes and no". For the Son of God, Christ Jesus, whom we announced among you, Silvanus and Timothy, with me, was not "yes and no"; it was only "yes". And all of God's promises have found their “yes” in his person. So it is through Christ that we say our "amen", our "yes" to God for his glory. The one who makes us solid for Christ in our relationship with you, the one who consecrated us, is God; he has marked us with his seal, and he has placed the Spirit in our hearts, the first advance on his gifts.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்தைக் கண்டு மலைமீது ஏறி அமர, அவருடைய சீடர் அவரருகே வந்தனர். அவர் திருவாய் மலர்ந்து கற்பித்தவை: “ஏழையரின் உள்ளத்தோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் விண்ணரசு அவர்களுக்கு உரியது. துயருறுவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் ஆறுதல் பெறுவர். கனிவுடையோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் நாட்டை உரிமைச் சொத்தாக்கிக் கொள்வர். நீதி நிலைநாட்டும் வேட்கை கொண்டோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் நிறைவு பெறுவர். இரக்கமுடையோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் இரக்கம் பெறுவர். தூய்மையான உள்ளத்தோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கடவுளைக் காண்பர். அமைதி ஏற்படுத்துவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கடவுளின் மக்கள் என அழைக்கப்படுவர். நீதியின் பொருட்டுத் துன்புறுத்தப்படுவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் விண்ணரசு அவர்களுக்கு உரியது.

என் பொருட்டு மக்கள் உங்களை இகழ்ந்து, துன்புறுத்தி, உங்களைப் பற்றி இல்லாதவை பொல்லாதவையெல்லாம் சொல்லும்போது நீங்கள் பேறு பெற்றவர்களே! மகிழ்ந்து பேருவகை கொள்ளுங்கள்! ஏனெனில் விண்ணுலகில் உங்களுக்குக் கிடைக்கும் கைம்மாறு மிகுதியாகும். இவ்வாறே உங்களுக்கு முன்னிருந்த இறைவாக்கினர்களையும் அவர்கள் துன்புறுத்தினார்கள்.”

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய இரண்டாம் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 1-7.

கொரிந்து நகரில் உள்ள கடவுளின் திருச்சபைக்கும் அக்காயா மாநிலம் முழுவதிலும் வாழும் இறைமக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் கடவுளின் திருவுளத்தால் கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவின் திருத்தூதனாயிருக்கும் பவுலும் சகோதரராகிய திமொத்தேயுவும் எழுதுவது: நம் தந்தையாம் கடவுளிடமிருந்தும் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவிடமிருந்தும் உங்களுக்கு அருளும் அமைதியும் உரித்தாகுக!

நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் தந்தை இரக்கம் நிறைந்த கடவுள். அவரே ஆறுதல் அனைத்துக்கும் ஊற்று; அவரைப் போற்றுவோம். கடவுள் எங்களுடைய இன்னல்கள் அனைத்திலும் எங்களுக்கு ஆறுதல் அளிக்கிறார். நாங்களே கடவுளிடமிருந்து ஆறுதல் பெற்றுள்ளதால் பல்வேறு இன்னல்களில் உழலும் மற்ற மக்களுக்கும் ஆறுதல் அளிக்க எங்களால் முடிகிறது.

கிறிஸ்து நமக்காக மிகுதியாகத் துன்புற்றார்; அதுபோல அவர் வழியாக நாம் மிகுதியான ஆறுதலும் பெறுகிறோம். ஆகவே நாங்கள் துன்புறுகிறோம் என்றால் அது உங்கள் ஆறுதலுக்காகவும் மீட்புக்காகவும்தான்; நாங்கள் ஆறுதல் பெறுகிறோம் என்றால் அது உங்கள் ஆறுதலுக்காகவே. நாங்கள் துன்பங்களைப் பொறுத்துக் கொள்வதைப் போல நீங்களும் உங்கள் துன்பங்களைத் தளரா மனத்துடன் பொறுத்துக் கொள்வதற்கு இந்த ஆறுதல் ஆற்றல் அளிக்கிறது. நீங்கள் எங்கள் துன்பத்தில் பங்கெடுத்ததைப்போல் எங்களுடைய ஆறுதலிலும் பங்குபெறுவீர்கள் என்பது எங்களுக்குத் தெரியும். நீங்கள் இவ்வாறு செய்வீர்கள் என உறுதியாக எதிர்நோக்கி இருக்கிறோம்.

"Blessed are the poor in heart" 

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Matthew (5, 1-12) 

At that time, seeing the crowds, Jesus climbed the mountain. He sat down, and his disciples came to him. So, opening his mouth, he taught them.

He said, “Blessed are the poor in heart, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. Happy are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Happy are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be granted mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you if you are insulted, if you are persecuted and if all kinds of evil are said falsely against you, because of me. Rejoice, be glad, for great is your reward in heaven! This is how the prophets who came before you were persecuted. "

I will bless the Lord at all times,

may the poor hear me and be in celebration! R 

Magnify the Lord with me,

let us all exalt his name together.

I seek the Lord, he answers me:

from all my fears he delivers me. R 

Whoever looks towards him will shine,

without shadow or confusion in the face.

A poor cry; the Lord hears:

he saves him from all his anguish. R

“God comforts us; thus, we can comfort all those who are in distress ” 

A Reading from the second letter of Saint Paul the apostle to the Corinthians (1, 1-7) 

Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the Church of God which is in Corinth as well as to all the faithful who are throughout Greece. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father full of tenderness, the God from whom comes all comfort. In all our distress, he comforts us; thus, we can comfort all those in distress, through the comfort that we ourselves receive from God. For just as we have a large share in the sufferings of Christ, so through Christ we are greatly comforted. When we are in distress, it is so that you may obtain comfort and salvation; when we are comforted, it is again so that you may obtain comfort, and that enables you to endure with perseverance the same sufferings as we do. As far as you are concerned, we have good cause for hope, for, as we know, as you share in suffering, so you will find comfort.

புளிப்பற்ற அப்ப விழாவின் முதல் நாள் வந்தது. பாஸ்கா ஆட்டுக்குட்டியைப் பலியிடும் அந்நாளிலே இயேசுவின் சீடர், “நீர் பாஸ்கா விருந்துண்ண நாங்கள் எங்கே சென்று ஏற்பாடு செய்ய வேண்டும் என விரும்புகிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

அவர் பின்வருமாறு கூறி, தம் சீடருள் இருவரை அனுப்பினார்; “நீங்கள் புறப்பட்டு நகருக்குள் செல்லுங்கள். மண்குடத்தில் தண்ணீர் சுமந்துகொண்டு ஓர் ஆள் உங்களுக்கு எதிரே வருவார். அவர் பின்னே செல்லுங்கள். அவர் எந்த வீட்டுக்குச் செல்கிறாரோ, அந்த வீட்டின் உரிமையாளரிடம், “‘நான் என் சீடர்களோடு பாஸ்கா விருந்து உண்பதற்கான என் அறை எங்கே?’ என்று போதகர் கேட்கச் சொன்னார்” எனக் கூறுங்கள். அவர் மேல்மாடியில் ஒரு பெரிய அறையைக் காட்டுவார். அது தேவையான வசதிகளோடு தயார் நிலையில் இருக்கும். அங்கே நமக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்யுங்கள்.” சீடர்கள் சென்று, நகரை அடைந்து, தங்களுக்கு அவர் சொல்லியவாறே அனைத்தையும் கண்டு பாஸ்கா விருந்துக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்தார்கள்.

அவர்கள் உண்டுகொண்டிருந்தபொழுது அவர் அப்பத்தை எடுத்து, கடவுளைப் போற்றி அதைப் பிட்டு, அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து, “இதைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள்; இது எனது உடல்” என்றார். பின்பு அவர் கிண்ணத்தை எடுத்துக் கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தி அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார். அனைவரும் அதிலிருந்து பருகினர். அப்பொழுது அவர் அவர்களிடம், “இது எனது உடன்படிக்கையின் இரத்தம்; பலருக்காகச் சிந்தப்படும் இரத்தம். இனிமேல் இறையாட்சி வரும் அந்நாளில்தான் நான் திராட்சைப்பழ இரசத்தைக் குடிப்பேன்; அதுவரை ஒருபோதும் குடிக்க மாட்டேன் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார்.

அவர்கள் புகழ்ப்பாடல் பாடிவிட்டு ஒலிவமலைக்குச் சென்றார்கள்.
