மானிடா! எருசலேமுக்கு அதன் அருவருப்புகளைச் சுட்டிக் காட்டு. நீ சொல்: தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் எருசலேமுக்குக் கூறுவது இதுவே: நீ தோன்றியதும் பிறந்ததும் கானான் நாட்டிலே, உன் தந்தை ஓர் எமோரியன். உன் தாய் ஓர் இத்தியள். நீ பிறந்த வரலாறு இதுவே: நீ பிறந்த அன்று உன் கொப்பூழ்க் கொடி அறுக்கப்படவில்லை. நீ நீராட்டப்பட்டுத் தூய்மை ஆக்கப்படவில்லை; உப்பு நீரால் கழுவப்படவில்லை; துணிகளால் சுற்றப்படவும் இல்லை; உன்னை இரக்கத்துடன் கண்ணோக்கி உனக்காக வருந்தி, இவற்றுள் ஒன்றையேனும் உனக்குச் செய்வாரில்லை. ஆனால் நீ திறந்த வெளியில் எறியப்பட்டாய்.

ஏனெனில் நீ பிறந்த நாளிலேயே வெறுத்து ஒதுக்கப்பட்டாய். அவ்வழியாய்க் கடந்துபோன நான் உன்னருகில் வந்து உன் இரத்தத்தில் நீ புரள்வதைக் கண்டு, இரத்தத்தில் கிடந்த உன்னை நோக்கி, ‘வாழ்ந்திடு’ என்றேன். ஆம், இரத்தத்தில் கிடந்த உன்னை நோக்கி, ‘வாழ்ந்திடு’ என்றேன். உன்னை வயல்வெளியில் வளரும் பயிர் போல் உருவாக்கினேன். நீ வளர்ந்து பருவம் எய்தி அழகிய மங்கையானாய். உன் கொங்கைகள் உருப்பெற்றன; உன் கூந்தலும் நீண்டு வளர்ந்தது. ஆயினும் நீ ஆடையின்றித் திறந்த மேனியளாய் நின்றாய்.

அவ்வழியாய்க் கடந்துபோன நான் உன்னை நோக்கினேன். அப்போது நீ காதற் பருவத்தில் இருந்தாய். நான் என் ஆடையை உன்மேல் விரித்து உன் திறந்த மேனியை மூடினேன். உனக்கு உறுதிமொழி தந்து, உன்னோடு உடன்படிக்கை செய்தேன். நீயும் என்னுடையவள் ஆனாய், என்கிறார் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர். நான் உன்னை நீராட்டி, உன் மேலிருந்த இரத்தத்தைக் கழுவித் துடைத்து, உனக்கு எண்ணெய் பூசினேன். பூப் பின்னல் உடையால் உன்னை உடுத்தி, தோல் காலணிகளை உனக்கு மாட்டி, மெல்லிய துகிலை உனக்கு அணிவித்து, நார்ப் பட்டால் உன்னைப் போர்த்தினேன்.

அணிகலன்களால் உன்னை அழகு செய்தேன்; கைகளுக்குக் காப்புகளும் கழுத்திற்குச் சங்கிலியும் இட்டேன். மூக்குக்கு மூக்குத்தியும், காதுகளுக்குத் தோடுகளும், தலையில் அழகிய மணிமுடியும் அணிவித்தேன். பொன்னாலும், வெள்ளியாலும், நீ அணி செய்யப்பட்டாய். நார்ப் பட்டும் மெல்லிய துகிலும், பூப் பின்னல் ஆடையும் உன் உடைகள் ஆயின. மாவும், தேனும், எண்ணெயும் உன் உணவாயின. நீ மிக மிக அழகு வாய்ந்தவளாகி, அரச தகுதி பெற்றாய். உன் அழகின் காரணமாக உன் புகழ் வேற்றினத்தாரிடையே பரவிற்று. என் மாட்சி உன்மேல்பட உன் அழகு நிறைவுற்று விளங்கிற்று, என்கிறார் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர். நீயோ உன் அழகில் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து, உன் புகழைப் பணயமாக வைத்து, விலைமகளாகி, வருவோர் போவோரிடம் எல்லாம் வேசித்தனம் செய்தாய்.

Some Pharisees approached Jesus, and to test him they said, ‘Is it against the Law for a man to divorce his wife on any pretext whatever?’ He answered, ‘Have you not read that the creator from the beginning made them male and female and that he said: This is why a man must leave father and mother, and cling to his wife, and the two become one body? They are no longer two, therefore, but one body. So then, what God has united, man must not divide.’

  They said to him, ‘Then why did Moses command that a writ of dismissal should be given in cases of divorce?’ ‘It was because you were so unteachable’ he said ‘that Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but it was not like this from the beginning. Now I say this to you: the man who divorces his wife – I am not speaking of fornication – and marries another, is guilty of adultery.’

  The disciples said to him, ‘If that is how things are between husband and wife, it is not advisable to marry.’ But he replied, ‘It is not everyone who can accept what I have said, but only those to whom it is granted. There are eunuchs born that way from their mother’s womb, there are eunuchs made so by men and there are eunuchs who have made themselves that way for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.’

A Reading from the Book of Ezekiel 16: 1-15,60,63 

The word of the Lord was addressed to me as follows, ‘Son of man, confront Jerusalem with her filthy crimes. Say, “The Lord says this: By origin and birth you belong to the land of Canaan. Your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite. At birth, the very day you were born, there was no one to cut your navel-string, or wash you in cleansing water, or rub you with salt, or wrap you in napkins. No one leaned kindly over you to do anything like that for you. You were exposed in the open fields; you were as unloved as that on the day you were born.

  ‘“I saw you struggling in your blood as I was passing, and I said to you as you lay in your blood: Live, and grow like the grass of the fields. You developed, you grew, you reached marriageable age. Your breasts and your hair both grew, but you were quite naked. Then I saw you as I was passing. Your time had come, the time for love. I spread part of my cloak over you and covered your nakedness; I bound myself by oath, I made a covenant with you – it is the Lord who speaks – and you became mine. I bathed you in water, I washed the blood off you, I anointed you with oil. I gave you embroidered dresses, fine leather shoes, a linen headband and a cloak of silk.   ‘“You have become infatuated with your own beauty; you have used your fame to make yourself a prostitute; you have offered your services to all comers. But I will remember the covenant that I made with you when you were a girl, and I will conclude a covenant with you that shall last for ever. And so remember and be covered with shame, and in your confusion be reduced to silence, when I have pardoned you for all that you have done – it is the Lord who speaks.”’

அக்காலத்தில்

பேதுரு இயேசுவை அணுகி, “ஆண்டவரே, என் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளுள் ஒருவர் எனக்கு எதிராகப் பாவம் செய்துவந்தால் நான் எத்தனை முறை அவரை மன்னிக்க வேண்டும்? ஏழு முறை மட்டுமா?” எனக் கேட்டார். அதற்கு இயேசு அவரிடம் கூறியது: “ஏழு முறை மட்டுமல்ல; எழுபது தடவை ஏழு முறை என நான் உனக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.

விண்ணரசைப் பின்வரும் நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு ஒப்பிடலாம்; ஓர் அரசர் தம் பணியாளர்களிடம் கணக்குக் கேட்க விரும்பினார். அவர் கணக்குப் பார்க்கத் தொடங்கியபொழுது, அவரிடம் பத்தாயிரம் தாலந்து கடன்பட்ட ஒருவனைக் கொண்டு வந்தனர். அவன் பணத்தைத் திருப்பிக் கொடுக்க இயலாத நிலையில் இருந்தான். தலைவரோ, அவனையும் அவன் மனைவி மக்களோடு அவனுக்குரிய உடமைகள் யாவற்றையும் விற்றுப் பணத்தைத் திருப்பி அடைக்க ஆணையிட்டார். உடனே அப்பணியாள் அவர் காலில் விழுந்து பணிந்து, ‘என்னைப் பொறுத்தருள்க; எல்லாவற்றையும் உமக்குத் திருப்பித் தந்துவிடுகிறேன்’ என்றான். அப்பணியாளின் தலைவர் பரிவு கொண்டு அவனை விடுவித்து அவனது கடன் முழுவதையும் தள்ளுபடி செய்தார்.

ஆனால் அப்பணியாள் வெளியே சென்றதும், தன்னிடம் நூறு தெனாரியம் கடன்பட்டிருந்த உடன்பணியாளர் ஒருவரைக் கண்டு, ‘நீ பட்ட கடனைத் திருப்பித் தா’ எனக் கூறி அவரைப் பிடித்துக் கழுத்தை நெரித்தான். உடனே அவனுடைய உடன்பணியாளர் காலில் விழுந்து, என்னைப் பொறுத்தருள்க; நான் திருப்பிக் கொடுத்துவிடுகிறேன்’ என்று அவனைக் கெஞ்சிக் கேட்டார். ஆனால் அவன் அதற்கு இசையாது, கடனைத் திருப்பி அடைக்கும்வரை அவரைச் சிறையிலடைத்தான்.

அவருடைய உடன்பணியாளர்கள் நடந்ததைக் கண்டபோது மிகவும் வருந்தித் தலைவரிடம் போய் நடந்தவற்றையெல்லாம் விளக்கிக் கூறினார்கள். அப்போது தலைவர் அவனை வரவழைத்து, “பொல்லாதவனே, நீ என்னை வேண்டிக்கொண்டதால் அந்தக் கடன் முழுவதையும் உனக்குத் தள்ளுபடி செய்தேன். நான் உனக்கு இரக்கம் காட்டியதுபோல நீயும் உன் உடன்பணியாளருக்கு இரக்கம் காட்டியிருக்க வேண்டும் அல்லவா? என்று கேட்டார். அத்தலைவர் சினங்கொண்டவராய், அனைத்துக் கடனையும் அவன் அடைக்கும்வரை அவனை வதைப்போரிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார்.

உங்களுள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் தம் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளை மனமார மன்னிக்காவிட்டால் விண்ணுலகில் இருக்கும் என் தந்தையும் உங்களை மன்னிக்க மாட்டார்."

இயேசு இவ்வாறு உரையாற்றி முடித்த பின்பு கலிலேயாவை விட்டு அகன்று யோர்தானுக்கு அப்பாலுள்ள யூதேயப் பகுதிகளுக்குச் சென்றார்.

ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு எனக்கு அருளப்பட்டது: “மானிடா! கலகம் செய்யும் வீட்டாரிடையே நீ வாழ்கின்றாய். காணக் கண்கள் இருந்தும் அவர்கள் காண்பதில்லை; கேட்கச் செவிகள் இருந்தும் அவர்கள் கேட்பதில்லை; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கலகம் செய்யும் வீட்டார்.

Peter went up to Jesus and said, ‘Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? As often as seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘Not seven, I tell you, but seventy-seven times.

  ‘And so the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who decided to settle his accounts with his servants. When the reckoning began, they brought him a man who owed ten thousand talents; but he had no means of paying, so his master gave orders that he should be sold, together with his wife and children and all his possessions, to meet the debt. At this, the servant threw himself down at his master’s feet. “Give me time” he said “and I will pay the whole sum.” And the servant’s master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancelled the debt. Now as this servant went out, he happened to meet a fellow servant who owed him one hundred denarii; and he seized him by the throat and began to throttle him. “Pay what you owe me” he said. His fellow servant fell at his feet and implored him, saying, “Give me time and I will pay you.” But the other would not agree; on the contrary, he had him thrown into prison till he should pay the debt. His fellow servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened, and they went to their master and reported the whole affair to him. Then the master sent for him. “You wicked servant,” he said “I cancelled all that debt of yours when you appealed to me. Were you not bound, then, to have pity on your fellow servant just as I had pity on you?” And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers till he should pay all his debt. And that is how my heavenly Father will deal with you unless you each forgive your brother from your heart.’

  Jesus had now finished what he wanted to say, and he left Galilee and came into the part of Judaea which is on the far side of the Jordan.

He gave his ark into captivity,

  his glorious ark into the hands of the foe.

He gave up his people to the sword,

  in his anger against his chosen ones.

The oracle of exile against the whole House of Israel

A reading from the Book of Ezekiel 12: 1-12 

The word of the Lord was addressed to me as follows, ‘Son of man, you are living with that set of rebels who have eyes and never see, ears and never hear, for they are a set of rebels. You, son of man, pack an exile’s bundle and emigrate by daylight when they can see you, emigrate from where you are to somewhere else while they watch. Perhaps they will admit then that they are a set of rebels. You will pack your baggage like an exile’s bundle, by daylight, for them to see, and leave like an exile in the evening, making sure that they are looking. As they watch, make a hole in the wall, and go out through it. As they watch, you will shoulder your pack and go out into the dark; you will cover your face so that you cannot see the country, since I have made you a symbol for the House of Israel.’

  I did as I had been told. I packed my baggage like an exile’s bundle, by daylight; and in the evening I made a hole through the wall with my hand. I went out into the dark and shouldered my pack as they watched.

  The next morning the word of the Lord was addressed to me as follows, ‘Son of man, did not the House of Israel, did not that set of rebels, ask you what you were doing? Say, “The Lord says this: This oracle is directed against Jerusalem and the whole House of Israel wherever they are living.” Say, “I am a symbol for you; the thing I have done will be done to them; they will go into exile, into banishment.” Their ruler will shoulder his pack in the dark and go out through the wall; a hole will be made to let him out; he will cover his face rather than see the country.’
