Give way to one another in obedience to Christ

Ephesians 5:21-33 

Give way to one another in obedience to Christ. Wives should regard their husbands as they regard the Lord, since as Christ is head of the Church and saves the whole body, so is a husband the head of his wife; and as the Church submits to Christ, so should wives to their husbands, in everything. Husbands should love their wives just as Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her to make her holy. He made her clean by washing her in water with a form of words, so that when he took her to himself she would be glorious, with no speck or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and faultless. In the same way, husbands must love their wives as they love their own bodies; for a man to love his wife is for him to love himself. A man never hates his own body, but he feeds it and looks after it; and that is the way Christ treats the Church, because it is his body – and we are its living parts. For this reason, a man must leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one body. This mystery has many implications; but I am saying it applies to Christ and the Church. To sum up; you too, each one of you, must love his wife as he loves himself; and let every wife respect her husband.

அக்காலத்தில்

ஓய்வு நாளில் இயேசு தொழுகைக்கூடம் ஒன்றில் கற்பித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். பதினெட்டு ஆண்டுகளாகத் தீய ஆவி பிடித்து உடல் நலம் குன்றிய பெண் ஒருவர் அங்கு இருந்தார். அவர் சிறிதும் நிமிர முடியாதவாறு கூன் விழுந்த நிலையில் இருந்தார்.

இயேசு அவரைக் கண்டு அருகே கூப்பிட்டு, “அம்மா, உமது நோயிலிருந்து நீர் விடுவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளீர்” என்று கூறி, தம் கைகளை அவர்மீது வைத்தார். உடனே அவர் நிமிர்ந்து கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தார்.

இயேசு ஓய்வு நாளில் குணமாக்கியதைக் கண்ட தொழுகைக்கூடத் தலைவர் கோபம்கொண்டு, மக்கள் கூட்டத்தினரைப் பார்த்து, “வேலை செய்ய ஆறு நாள்கள் உண்டே; அந்நாள்களில் வந்து குணம் பெற்றுக் கொள்ளுங்கள்; ஓய்வு நாளில் வேண்டாம்” என்றார்.

ஆண்டவரோ அவரைப் பார்த்து, “வெளிவேடக்காரரே, நீங்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் ஓய்வு நாளில் தம் மாட்டையோ கழுதையையோ தொழுவத்திலிருந்து அவிழ்த்துக்கொண்டு போய்த் தண்ணீர் காட்டுவது இல்லையோ? பாருங்கள், ஆபிரகாமின் மகளாகிய இவரைப் பதினெட்டு ஆண்டுகளாகச் சாத்தான் கட்டி வைத்திருந்தான். இந்தக் கட்டிலிருந்து இவரை ஓய்வு நாளில் விடுவிப்பது முறையில்லையா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அவர் இவற்றைச் சொன்னபோது, அவரை எதிர்த்த அனைவரும் வெட்கப்பட்டனர். திரண்டிருந்த மக்கள் எல்லாரும் அவர் செய்த மாட்சிக்குரிய செயல்கள் அனைத்தையும் குறித்து மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தனர்.

ஒருவருக்கொருவர் நன்மை செய்து பரிவு காட்டுங்கள்; கடவுள் உங்களைக் கிறிஸ்து வழியாக மன்னித்தது போல நீங்களும் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் மன்னியுங்கள்.

ஆகவே நீங்கள் கடவுளின் அன்பார்ந்த பிள்ளைகளாய் அவரைப்போல் ஆகுங்கள். கிறிஸ்து உங்களுக்காகத் தம்மை நறுமணம் வீசும் பலியும் காணிக்கையுமாகக் கடவுளிடம் ஒப்படைத்து உங்களிடம் அன்பு கூர்ந்ததுபோல, நீங்களும் அன்பு கொண்டு வாழுங்கள்.

பரத்தைமை, அனைத்து ஒழுக்கக் கேடுகள், பேராசை ஆகியவற்றின் பெயர்கூட உங்களிடையே சொல்லப்படலாகாது. இதுவே இறைமக்களுக்கு ஏற்ற நடத்தை. அவ்வாறே, வெட்கங்கெட்ட செயல், மடத்தனமான பேச்சு, பகடி பண்ணுதல் ஆகியவை தகாதவை; நன்றி சொல்லுதலே தகும்.

ஏனெனில் பரத்தைமையில் ஈடுபடுவோர், ஒழுக்கக் கேடாக நடப்போர், சிலை வழிபாடாகிய பேராசை கொண்டோர் போன்ற எவரும் கிறிஸ்துவுக்கும் கடவுளுக்கும் உரிய அரசில் உரிமைப்பேறு அடையார் என்பதை நீங்கள் அறிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள். வீண் வார்த்தைகளால் உங்களை யாரும் ஏமாற்ற விடாதீர்கள். ஏனெனில் மேற்கூறிய செயல்களால்தான் கீழ்ப்படியாத மக்கள்மீது கடவுளின் சினம் வருகின்றது. எனவே அவர்களோடு நீங்கள் எதிலும் பங்குகொள்ள வேண்டாம்.

ஒரு காலத்தில் இருளாய் இருந்த நீங்கள் இப்போது ஆண்டவரோடு இணைந்து ஒளியாய் இருக்கிறீர்கள். ஆகவே ஒளி பெற்ற மக்களாக வாழுங்கள்.

Was it not right to untie this woman's bonds on the sabbath day?

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 13:10-17 

One sabbath day Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who for eighteen years had been possessed by a spirit that left her enfeebled; she was bent double and quite unable to stand upright. When Jesus saw her he called her over and said, ‘Woman, you are rid of your infirmity’ and he laid his hands on her. And at once she straightened up, and she glorified God.

  But the synagogue official was indignant because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, and he addressed the people present. ‘There are six days’ he said ‘when work is to be done. Come and be healed on one of those days and not on the sabbath.’ But the Lord answered him. ‘Hypocrites!’ he said ‘Is there one of you who does not untie his ox or his donkey from the manger on the sabbath and take it out for watering? And this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has held bound these eighteen years – was it not right to untie her bonds on the sabbath day?’ When he said this, all his adversaries were covered with confusion, and all the people were overjoyed at all the wonders he worked.

  who follows not the counsel of the wicked;

He is like a tree that is planted

Follow Christ by loving as he loved you

Ephesians 4:32-5:8 

Be friends with one another, and kind, forgiving each other as readily as God forgave you in Christ.

  Try, then, to imitate God as children of his that he loves and follow Christ loving as he loved you, giving himself up in our place as a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God. Among you there must be not even a mention of fornication or impurity in any of its forms, or promiscuity: this would hardly become the saints! There must be no coarseness, or salacious talk and jokes – all this is wrong for you; raise your voices in thanksgiving instead. For you can be quite certain that nobody who actually indulges in fornication or impurity or promiscuity – which is worshipping a false god – can inherit anything of the kingdom of God. Do not let anyone deceive you with empty arguments: it is for this loose living that God’s anger comes down on those who rebel against him. Make sure that you are not included with them. You were darkness once, but now you are light in the Lord; be like children of light.

அன்பிற்குரியவரே,

நான் இப்போதே என்னைப் பலியாகப் படைக்கிறேன். நான் பிரிந்து செல்லவேண்டிய நேரம் வந்துவிட்டது. நான் நல்லதொரு போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டேன். என் ஓட்டத்தை முடித்துவிட்டேன். விசுவாசத்தைக் காத்துக்கொண்டேன். இனி எனக்கென வைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பது நேரிய வாழ்வுக்கான வெற்றி வாகையே. அதை இறுதி நாளில் ஆண்டவர் எனக்குத் தருவார்; நீதியான அந்த நடுவர் எனக்கு மட்டுமல்ல, அவர் தோன்றுவார் என விரும்பிக் காத்திருக்கும் அனைவருக்குமே தருவார்.

நான் முதன்முறை வழக்காடியபோது எவரும் என் பக்கம் இருக்கவில்லை; எல்லாரும் என்னை விட்டு அகன்றனர். அக்குற்றம் அவர்களைச் சாராதிருப்பதாக. நான் அறிவித்த செய்தி நிறைவுற்று, அனைத்து நாட்டவரும் அதனைக் கேட்க வேண்டுமென்று ஆண்டவர் என் பக்கம் நின்று எனக்கு வலுவூட்டினார்; சிங்கத்தின் வாயிலிருந்தும் என்னை விடுவித்தார்.

தீங்கு அனைத்திலிருந்தும் அவர் என்னை விடுவித்துத் தம் விண்ணரசில் சேர்த்து எனக்கு மீட்பளிப்பார். அவருக்கே என்றென்றும் மாட்சி உரித்தாகுக! ஆமென்.

தாங்கள் நேர்மையானவர் என்று நம்பி மற்றவர்களை இகழ்ந்து ஒதுக்கும் சிலரைப் பார்த்து இயேசு இந்த உவமையைச் சொன்னார்: “இருவர் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டக் கோவிலுக்குச் சென்றனர். ஒருவர் பரிசேயர், மற்றவர் வரிதண்டுபவர்.

பரிசேயர் நின்றுகொண்டு, இவ்வாறு இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினார்: ‘கடவுளே, நான் கொள்ளையர், நேர்மையற்றோர், விபசாரர் போன்ற மற்ற மக்களைப் போலவோ இந்த வரிதண்டுபவரைப் போலவோ இல்லாதது பற்றி உமக்கு நன்றி செலுத்துகிறேன்; வாரத்தில் இரு முறை நோன்பு இருக் கிறேன்; என் வருவாயில் எல்லாம் பத்திலொரு பங்கைக் கொடுக்கிறேன்.’ ஆனால் வரிதண்டுபவர் தொலையில் நின்றுகொண்டு, வானத்தை அண்ணாந்து பார்க்கக்கூடத் துணியாமல் தம் மார்பில் அடித்துக் கொண்டு, ‘கடவுளே, பாவியாகிய என்மீது இரங்கியருளும்’ என்றார். “

இயேசு, “பரிசேயர் அல்ல, வரிதண்டுபவரே கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்புடையவராகி வீடு திரும்பினார். ஏனெனில் தம்மைத் தாமே உயர்த்துவோர் தாழ்த்தப் பெறுவர்; தம்மைத் தாமே தாழ்த்துவோர் உயர்த்தப் பெறுவர் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார்.
