சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

பாவத்திற்கு எதிரான போராட்டத்தில், இரத்தம் சிந்தும் அளவுக்கு நீங்கள் இன்னும் எதிர்த்து நிற்கவில்லை.

தம் பிள்ளைகளிடம் பேசுவதுபோல் இறைவன் உங்களுக்குத் தந்த பின்வரும் அறிவுரையை நீங்கள் மறந்துவிட்டீர்கள்: “பிள்ளாய், ஆண்டவர் உன்னைக் கண்டித்துத் திருத்துவதை வேண்டாம் எனத் தள்ளிவிடாதே. அவர் கண்டிக்கும்போது தளர்ந்து போகாதே. தந்தை தாம் ஏற்றுக்கொண்ட மக்களைத் தண்டிக்கிறார்; ஆண்டவர் தாம் யாரிடம் அன்பு கொண்டிருக்கிறாரோ அவர்களைக் கண்டிக்கிறார்."

திருத்தப்படுவதற்காகத் துன்பங்களைத் தாங்கிக்கொள்ளுங்கள். கடவுள் உங்களைத் தம் பிள்ளைகளாக நடத்துகிறார். தந்தை தண்டித்துத் திருத்தாத பிள்ளை உண்டோ? இவ்வாறு திருத்தப்படுவது இப்போது மகிழ்ச்சிக்குரியதாய் இராமல், துயரத்துக்குரியதாகவே தோன்றும். ஆனால் பின்னர், இவ்வாறு பயிற்சி பெற்றவர்கள் அமைதியையும் நேர்மையான வாழ்வையும் பயனாகப் பெறுவர். எனவே, “தளர்ந்துபோன கைகளைத் திடப்படுத்துங்கள், தள்ளாடும் முழங்கால்களை உறுதிப்படுத்துங்கள். நீங்கள் நேர்மையான பாதையில் நடந்து செல்லுங்கள்.” அப்போதுதான் ஊனமாய்ப் போன கால்மூட்டு பிசகாமல் குணமடையும்.

அனைவருடனும் அமைதியாய் இருக்க முயலுங்கள்; தூய்மையை நாடுங்கள். தூய்மையின்றி எவரும் ஆண்டவரைக் காணமாட்டார். உங்களுள் எவரும் கடவுளின் அருளை இழந்துவிடாமலிருக்கப் பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள். கசப்பான நச்சுவேர் எதுவும் உங்களுக்குள் முளைத்து, தொல்லை கொடுக்காதபடியும் அதனால் பலர் கெட்டுப் போகாதபடியும் பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 6:1-6 

Jesus went to his home town and his disciples accompanied him. With the coming of the sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue and most of them were astonished when they heard him. They said, ‘Where did the man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been granted him, and these miracles that are worked through him? This is the carpenter, surely, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joset and Jude and Simon? His sisters, too, are they not here with us?’ And they would not accept him. And Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is only despised in his own country, among his own relations and in his own house’; and he could work no miracle there, though he cured a few sick people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

God is training you as his sons

Hebrews 12: 4-7,11-15 

In the fight against sin, you have not yet had to keep fighting to the point of death.

  Have you forgotten that encouraging text in which you are addressed as sons? My son, when the Lord corrects you, do not treat it lightly; but do not get discouraged when he reprimands you. For the Lord trains the ones that he loves and he punishes all those that he acknowledges as his sons. Suffering is part of your training; God is treating you as his sons. Has there ever been any son whose father did not train him? Of course, any punishment is most painful at the time, and far from pleasant; but later, in those on whom it has been used, it bears fruit in peace and goodness. So hold up your limp arms and steady your trembling knees and smooth out the path you tread; then the injured limb will not be wrenched, it will grow strong again.

  Always be wanting peace with all people, and the holiness without which no one can ever see the Lord. Be careful that no one is deprived of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness should begin to grow and make trouble; this can poison a whole community.

இயேசு படகிலேறி, கடலைக் கடந்து மீண்டும் மறுகரையை அடைந்ததும் பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவரிடம் வந்து கூடினர். அவர் கடற்கரையில் இருந்தார். தொழுகைக்கூடத் தலைவர்களுள் ஒருவரான யாயிர் என்பவர் வந்து, அவரைக் கண்டு அவரது காலில் விழுந்து, “என் மகள் சாகும் தறுவாயில் இருக்கிறாள். நீர் வந்து அவள்மீது உம் கைகளை வையும். அப்போது அவள் நலம் பெற்றுப் பிழைத்துக்கொள்வாள்” என்று அவரை வருந்தி வேண்டினார்.

இயேசுவும் அவருடன் சென்றார். பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவரை நெருக்கிக்கொண்டே பின்தொடர்ந்தனர். அப்போது பன்னிரு ஆண்டுகளாய் இரத்தப் போக்கினால் வருந்திய பெண் ஒருவர் அங்கு இருந்தார். அவர் மருத்துவர் பலரிடம் தமக்கு உள்ளதெல்லாம் செலவழித்தும் ஒரு பயனும் அடையாமல் மிகவும் துன்பப்பட்டவர். அவர் நிலைமை வரவர மிகவும் கேடுற்றது. அவர் இயேசுவைப் பற்றிக் கேள்விப்பட்டு மக்கள் கூட்டத்துக்கிடையில் அவருக்குப் பின்னால் வந்து அவரது மேலுடையைத் தொட்டார். ஏனெனில், “நான் அவருடைய ஆடையைத் தொட்டாலே நலம் பெறுவேன்” என்று அப்பெண் எண்ணிக்கொண்டார். தொட்ட உடனே அவருடைய இரத்தப்போக்கு நின்றுபோயிற்று. அவரும் தம் நோய் நீங்கி, நலம் பெற்றதைத் தம் உடலில் உணர்ந்தார்.

உடனே இயேசு தம்மிடமிருந்து வல்லமை வெளியேறியதைத் தம்முள் உணர்ந்து மக்கள் கூட்டத்தைத் திரும்பிப் பார்த்து, “என் மேலுடையைத் தொட்டவர் யார்?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவருடைய சீடர்கள் அவரிடம், “இம்மக்கள் கூட்டம் உம்மைச் சூழ்ந்து நெருக்குவதைக் கண்டும், ‘என்னைத் தொட்டவர் யார்?’ என்கிறீரே!” என்றார்கள். ஆனால் அவர் தம் மேலுடையைத் தொட்டவரைக் காணும்படி சுற்றிலும் திரும்பிப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார். அப்போது அப்பெண் தமக்கு நேர்ந்ததை அறிந்தவராய், அஞ்சி நடுங்கிக்கொண்டு, அவர்முன் வந்து விழுந்து, நிகழ்ந்தது அனைத்தையும் அவரிடம் சொன்னார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “மகளே, உனது நம்பிக்கை உன்னைக் குணமாக்கிற்று. அமைதியுடன் போ. நீ நோய் நீங்கி நலமாயிரு” என்றார்.

அவர் தொடர்ந்து பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, தொழுகைக்கூடத் தலைவருடைய வீட்டிலிருந்து ஆள்கள் வந்து, அவரிடம், “உம்முடைய மகள் இறந்துவிட்டாள். போதகரை ஏன் இன்னும் தொந்தரவு செய்கிறீர்?” என்றார்கள். அவர்கள் சொன்னது இயேசுவின் காதில் விழுந்ததும், அவர் தொழுகைக்கூடத் தலைவரிடம், “அஞ்சாதீர், நம்பிக்கையை மட்டும் விடாதீர்” என்று கூறினார். அவர் பேதுரு, யாக்கோபு, யாக்கோபின் சகோதரரான யோவான் ஆகியோரைத் தவிர வேறொருவரையும் தம்முடன் வரவிடவில்லை.

அவர்கள் தொழுகைக்கூடத் தலைவரின் வீட்டிற்குச் சென்றார்கள். அங்கே அமளியையும் மக்கள் அழுது ஓலமிட்டுப் புலம்புவதையும் இயேசு கண்டார். அவர் உள்ளே சென்று, “ஏன் இந்த அமளி? ஏன் இந்த அழுகை? சிறுமி இறக்கவில்லை, உறங்குகிறாள்” என்றார். அவர்கள் அவரைப் பார்த்து நகைத்தார்கள்.

ஆனால் அவர் அனைவரையும் வெளியேற்றியபின், சிறுமியின் தந்தையையும் தாயையும் தம்முடன் இருந்தவர்களையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அச்சிறுமி இருந்த இடத்திற்குச் சென்றார். சிறுமியின் கையைப் பிடித்து அவளிடம், “தலித்தா கூம்” என்றார். அதற்கு, ‘சிறுமி, உனக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன், எழுந்திடு’ என்பது பொருள். உடனே அச்சிறுமி எழுந்து நடந்தாள். அவள் பன்னிரண்டு வயது ஆனவள். மக்கள் பெரிதும் மலைத்துப்போய் மெய்ம்மறந்து நின்றார்கள். “இதை யாருக்கும் தெரிவிக்கக் கூடாது” என்று அவர் அவர்களுக்குக் கண்டிப்பாய்க் கட்டளையிட்டார்; அவளுக்கு உணவு கொடுக்கவும் சொன்னார்.

திரண்டு வரும் மேகம்போல் இத்தனை சாட்சிகள் நம்மைச் சூழ்ந்து நிற்க எந்தச் சுமையையும், நம்மைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் எந்தப் பாவத்தையும் உதறித் தள்ளிவிட்டு, நமக்குக் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ள பந்தயத்தில் மன உறுதியோடு ஓடுவோமாக. நம்பிக்கையைத் தொடங்கி வழிநடத்துபவரும் அதை நிறைவு செய்பவருமான இயேசுவின்மீது கண்களைப் பதிய வைப்போம். அவர் தாம் அடைய இருந்த மகிழ்ச்சியின் பொருட்டு, இழிவையும் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் சிலுவையை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். இப்போது, கடவுளது அரியணையின் வலப்பக்கத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கிறார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 5: 21-43 

When Jesus had crossed in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered round him and he stayed by the lakeside. Then one of the synagogue officials came up, Jairus by name, and seeing him, fell at his feet and pleaded with him earnestly, saying, ‘My little daughter is desperately sick. Do come and lay your hands on her to make her better and save her life.’ Jesus went with him and a large crowd followed him; they were pressing all round him.

  Now there was a woman who had suffered from a haemorrhage for twelve years; after long and painful treatment under various doctors, she spent all she had without being any the better for it, in fact, she was getting worse. She had heard about Jesus, and she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his cloak. ‘If I can touch even his clothes,’ she had told herself ‘I shall be well again.’ And the source of the bleeding dried up instantly, and she felt in herself that she was cured of her complaint. Immediately aware that power had gone out from him, Jesus turned round in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched my clothes?’ His disciples said to him, ‘You see how the crowd is pressing round you and yet you say, “Who touched me?”’ But he continued to look all round to see who had done it. Then the woman came forward, frightened and trembling because she knew what had happened to her, and she fell at his feet and told him the whole truth. ‘My daughter,’ he said ‘your faith has restored you to health; go in peace and be free from your complaint.’

  While he was still speaking some people arrived from the house of the synagogue official to say, ‘Your daughter is dead: why put the Master to any further trouble?’ But Jesus had overheard this remark of theirs and he said to the official, ‘Do not be afraid; only have faith.’ And he allowed no one to go with him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. So they came to the official’s house and Jesus noticed all the commotion, with people weeping and wailing unrestrainedly. He went in and said to them, ‘Why all this commotion and crying? The child is not dead, but asleep.’ But they laughed at him. So he turned them all out and, taking with him the child’s father and mother and his own companions, he went into the place where the child lay. And taking the child by the hand he said to her, ‘Talitha, kum!’ which means, ‘Little girl, I tell you to get up.’ The little girl got up at once and began to walk about, for she was twelve years old. At this they were overcome with astonishment, and he ordered them strictly not to let anyone know about it, and told them to give her something to eat.

We should keep running steadily in the race we have started

Hebrews 12:1-4 

With so many witnesses in a great cloud on every side of us, we too, then, should throw off everything that hinders us, especially the sin that clings so easily, and keep running steadily in the race we have started. Let us not lose sight of Jesus, who leads us in our faith and brings it to perfection: for the sake of the joy which was still in the future, he endured the cross, disregarding the shamefulness of it, and from now on has taken his place at the right of God’s throne. Think of the way he stood such opposition from sinners and then you will not give up for want of courage. In the fight against sin, you have not yet had to keep fighting to the point of death.
