தாவீது முழு உள்ளத்தோடு ஆண்டவரைப் புகழ்ந்தார்; தம்மைப் படைத்தவர்மீது அன்பு செலுத்தினார். 

சீராக்கின் ஞான நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 47: 2-11.

 நல்லுறவுப் பலியிலிருந்து கொழுப்பு பிரிக்கப்படுவதுபோல், இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களிடமிருந்து தாவீது தெரிந்துகொள்ளப்பெற்றார். வெள்ளாடுகளுடன் விளையாடுவது போலச் சிங்கங்களுடன் விளையாடினார்; செம்மறி ஆடுகளுடன் விளையாடுவது போலக் கரடிகளுடன் விளையாடினார். பெருமை பாராட்டிய கோலியாத்தை நோக்கி இளைஞர் தாவீது தம் கைகளை ஓங்கிக் கவண் கல்லை வீசியபோது ஓர் அரக்கனைக் கொல்லவில்லையா? அதனால் மக்களது இழிநிலையை அகற்றவில்லையா? வலிமைமிக்க மனிதனைப் போரில் கொன்று தம் மக்களின் வலிமையை உயர்த்த உன்னத இறைவனாகிய ஆண்டவரை அவர் துணைக்கு அழைத்தார்; ஆண்டவரும் அவருடைய வலக்கைக்கு வலிமையூட்டினார். இவ்வாறு அவர் முறியடித்த பத்தாயிரம் பேருக்காக மக்கள் அவரை மாட்சிமைப்படுத்தினர்; ஆண்டவருடைய ஆசிகளுக்காக அவரைப் புகழ்ந்தனர்; மாட்சியின் மணிமுடியை அவருக்குச் சூட்டினர். எப்புறமும் அவர் பகைவர்களைத் துடைத்தழித்தார்; எதிரிகளான பெலிஸ்தியரை அடக்கி ஒழித்தார்; அவர்களுடைய வலிமையை அறவே நசுக்கினார். தம் எல்லாச் செயல்களிலும் மாட்சியைச் சாற்றும் சொற்களால் உன்னத இறைவனாகிய ஆண்டவருக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தினார்; தம் முழு உள்ளத்தோடும் புகழ்ப்பா இசைத்தார்; தம்மைப் படைத்தவர்மீது அன்பு செலுத்தினார். தங்களுடைய குரலால் இன்னிசை எழுப்பப் பாடகர்களைப் பலிபீடத்திற்குமுன் நிற்கச் செய்தார். திருவிழாக்களைச் சீரோடும் சிறப்போடும் கொண்டாடச் செய்தார்; ஆண்டவருடைய திருப்பெயரை அவர்கள் புகழ்ந்து பாடுவதால் திருவிடம் வைகறையிலிருந்து எதிரொலிக்கும்படி ஆண்டு முழுவதும் காலங்களைக் குறித்தார். ஆண்டவர் அவருடைய பாவங்களை நீக்கினார்; அவருடைய வலிமையை என்றென்றைக்கும் உயர்த்தினார்; மன்னர்களின் உடன்படிக்கையையும் இஸ்ரயேலில் மாட்சியின் அரியணையையும் அவருக்குக் கொடுத்தார்.

At that time: King Herod heard of Jesus, for his name had become known. Some said, “John the Baptist has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.” But others said, “He is Elijah.” And others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.” But when Herod heard of it, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.” For it was Herod who had sent and seized John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her. For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”

And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not, for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly. But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee. For when Herodias’s daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you. And he vowed to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.” And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.” And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her. And immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in the prison and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. When his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

A Reading from the Book of Sirach  47:2-13 

As the fat is selected from the peace offering, so David was selected from the sons of Israel. He played with lions as with young goats and with bears as with lambs of the flock. In his youth did he not kill a giant, and take away reproach from the people, when he lifted his hand with a stone in the sling and struck down the boasting of Goliath? For he appealed to the Lord, the Most High, and he gave him strength in his right hand to slay a man mighty in war, to exalt the power of his people. So they glorified him for his ten thousands and praised him for the blessings of the Lord, when the glorious diadem was brought to him. For he wiped out his enemies on every side and annihilated his adversaries the Philistines; he crushed their power even to this day. In all that he did he gave thanks to the Holy One, the Most High, with ascriptions of glory; he sang praise with all his heart, and he loved his Maker. He placed singers before the altar to make sweet melody with their voices. He gave beauty to the feasts and arranged their times throughout the year, while they praised God’s holy name, and the sanctuary resounded from early morning. The Lord took away his sins and exalted his power for ever; he gave him the covenant of kings and a throne of glory in Israel.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு பன்னிருவரையும் தம்மிடம் வரவழைத்து, அவர்களை இருவர் இருவராக அனுப்பத் தொடங்கினார். அவர்களுக்குத் தீய ஆவிகள் மீது அதிகாரமும் அளித்தார்.

மேலும், “பயணத்திற்குக் கைத்தடி தவிர உணவு, பை, இடைக்கச்சையில் செப்புக் காசு முதலிய வேறு எதையும் நீங்கள் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போக வேண்டாம். ஆனால் மிதியடி போட்டுக்கொள்ளலாம்; அணிந்திருக்கும் அங்கி ஒன்றே போதும்” என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார்.

மேலும் அவர், “நீங்கள் எங்கேயாவது ஒரு வீட்டுக்குள் சென்றால், அங்கிருந்து புறப்படும்வரை அவ்வீட்டிலேயே தங்கியிருங்கள். உங்களை எந்த ஊராவது ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாமலோ உங்களுக்குச் செவிசாய்க்காமலோ போனால் அங்கிருந்து வெளியேறும்பொழுது, உங்கள் கால்களில் படிந்துள்ள தூசியை உதறிவிடுங்கள். இதுவே அவர்களுக்கு எதிரான சான்றாகும்” என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கூறினார்.

அப்படியே அவர்கள் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்று மக்கள் மனம் மாறவேண்டும் என்று பறைசாற்றினார்கள்; பல பேய்களை ஓட்டினார்கள்; உடல் நலமற்றோர் பலரை எண்ணெய் பூசிக் குணப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

பின்னர் தாவீது தம் மூதாதையருடன் துயில் கொண்டு, தாவீதின் நகரில் அடக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டார். தாவீது இஸ்ரயேலின்மீது ஆட்சி செலுத்திய காலம் நாற்பது ஆண்டுகள். அவர் எபிரோனில் ஏழு ஆண்டுகளும் எருசலேமில் முப்பத்து மூன்று ஆண்டுகளும் ஆட்சி செலுத்தினார். சாலமோன் தம் தந்தை தாவீதின் அரியணையில் அமர்ந்தார். அவருடைய ஆட்சி உறுதியாக நிலைநாட்டப்பட்டது.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 6: 7-13 

At that time: Jesus called the twelve, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff— no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.

David's dying exhortation to Solomon

A Reading from the first book of Kings 2:1-4,10-12

When David’s time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, “I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn, that the Lord may establish his word that he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.” Then David slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David. And the time that David reigned over Israel was forty years. He reigned for seven years in Hebron and for thirty three years in Jerusalem. So Solomon sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom was firmly established.
