இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்கிறவர்களாக மட்டும் இராமல், அதன்படி நடக்கிறவர்களாயும் இருங்கள்.

திருத்தூதர் யாக்கோபு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 19-27

என் அன்பார்ந்த சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, இதைத் தெரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்: ஒவ்வொருவரும் கேட்பதில் வேகமும், பேசுவதிலும் சினங்கொள்வதிலும் தாமதமும் காட்ட வேண்டும். ஏனெனில் மனிதரின் சினம் கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்புடைய செயல்கள் நிறைவேறத் தடையாயிருக்கிறது. எனவே எல்லா வகையான அழுக்கையும், உங்களிடம் மிகுந்துள்ள தீமையையும் அகற்றி, உங்கள் உள்ளத்தில் ஊன்றப்பட்ட வார்த்தையைப் பணிவோடு ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள். அதுவே உங்களை மீட்க வல்லது.

இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்கிறவர்களாக மட்டும் இருந்து உங்களை ஏமாற்றிக்கொள்ள வேண்டாம். அதன்படி நடக்கிறவர்களாயும் இருங்கள். ஏனென்றால் வார்த்தையைக் கேட்டு அதன்படி நடவாதோர், கண்ணாடியிலே தம் முகத்தைப் பார்த்துவிட்டுச் சென்று உடனே தாம் எவ்வாறு இருந்தார் என்பதை மறந்துவிடும் ஒரு மனிதருக்கு ஒப்பாவர். ஆனால் நிறைவான விடுதலையளிக்கக்கூடிய சட்டத்தைக் கூர்ந்து கவனித்து அதைத் தொடர்ந்து கற்போர் தாம் கேட்பதை மறந்து விடுவதில்லை; அவர்கள் அதற்கேற்ற செயல்களைச் செய்வார்கள்; தம் செயல்களால் பேறுபெற்றவர் ஆவார்கள்.

தாம் சமயப் பற்றுடையோர் என எண்ணிக் கொண்டிருப்போர் தம் நாவை அடக்காமல் இருப்பாரென்றால் தம்மையே ஏமாற்றிக்கொள்வர். இத்தகையோருடைய சமயப் பற்று பயனற்றது. தந்தையாம் கடவுளின் பார்வையில் தூய்மையானதும் மாசற்றதுமான சமய வாழ்வு எதுவெனில், துன்புறும் அனாதைகளையும் கைம்பெண்களையும் கவனித்தலும் உலகத்தால் கறைபடாதபடி தம்மைக் காத்துக்கொள்வதும் ஆகும்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 8: 22-26 

Jesus and his disciples came to Bethsaida, and some people brought to him a blind man whom they begged him to touch. He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. Then putting spittle on his eyes and laying his hands on him, he asked, ‘Can you see anything?’ The man, who was beginning to see, replied, ‘I can see people; they look like trees to me, but they are walking about.’ Then he laid his hands on the man’s eyes again and he saw clearly; he was cured, and he could see everything plainly and distinctly. And Jesus sent him home, saying, ‘Do not even go into the village.’

The Word is not only to be listened to, but obeyed

James 1: 19-27 

Remember this, my dear brothers: be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow to rouse your temper; God’s righteousness is never served by man’s anger; so do away with all the impurities and bad habits that are still left in you – accept and submit to the word which has been planted in you and can save your souls. But you must do what the word tells you, and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves. To listen to the word and not obey is like looking at your own features in a mirror and then, after a quick look, going off and immediately forgetting what you looked like. But the man who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and makes that his habit – not listening and then forgetting, but actively putting it into practice – will be happy in all that he does.

  Nobody must imagine that he is religious while he still goes on deceiving himself and not keeping control over his tongue; anyone who does this has the wrong idea of religion. Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father is this: coming to the help of orphans and widows when they need it, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.

அக்காலத்தில்

சீடர்கள் தங்களுக்குத் தேவையான அப்பங்களை எடுத்துச்செல்ல மறந்துவிட்டார்கள். படகில் அவர்களிடம் ஓர் அப்பம் மட்டுமே இருந்தது. அப்பொழுது இயேசு, “பரிசேயர், ஏரோதியர் ஆகியோரது புளிப்பு மாவைக் குறித்து மிகவும் கவனமாயிருங்கள்” என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார்.

அவர்களோ தங்களிடம் அப்பம் இல்லையே என்று ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். இதை அறிந்த இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் உங்களிடம் அப்பம் இல்லை என ஏன் பேசிக்கொள்கிறீர்கள்? இன்னுமா உணராமலும் புரிந்துகொள்ளாமலும் இருக்கிறீர்கள்? உங்கள் உள்ளம் மழுங்கியா போயிற்று? கண்ணிருந்தும் நீங்கள் காண்பதில்லையா? காதிருந்தும் நீங்கள் கேட்பதில்லையா? ஏன், உங்களுக்கு நினைவில்லையா? ஐந்து அப்பங்களை நான் ஐயாயிரம் பேருக்குப் பிட்டு அளித்தபோது, மீதியான துண்டுகளை எத்தனை கூடைகள் நிறைய எடுத்தீர்கள்?” என்று அவர் கேட்க, அவர்கள், “பன்னிரண்டு” என்றார்கள்.

“ஏழு அப்பங்களை நான் நாலாயிரம் பேருக்குப் பிட்டு அளித்தபோது மீதித் துண்டுகளை எத்தனை கூடைகள் நிறைய எடுத்தீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்க, அவர்கள், “ஏழு” என்றார்கள். மேலும் அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “இன்னும் உங்களுக்குப் புரியவில்லையா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அன்பிற்குரியவர்களே,

சோதனையை மனவுறுதியுடன் தாங்குவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர். ஏனெனில், அவர்களது தகுதி மெய்ப்பிக்கப்படும்போது, தம்மீது அன்பு கொள்வோருக்குக் கடவுள் வாக்களித்த வாழ்வாகிய வெற்றி வாகையினை அவர்கள் பெறுவார்கள்.

சோதனை வரும்போது, ‘இச்சோதனை கடவுளிடமிருந்தே வருகிறது’ என்று யாரும் சொல்லக் கூடாது. ஏனெனில் கடவுள் தீமையின் தூண்டுதலுக்கு உள்ளாவதில்லை. அவரும் எவரையும் சோதிப்பதில்லை. ஒவ்வொருவரும் தம் சொந்தத் தீய நாட்டத்தினாலே சோதிக்கப்படுகின்றனர். அது அவர்களைக் கவர்ந்து மயக்கித் தன் வயப்படுத்துகிறது. பின்னர் தீய நாட்டம் கருக்கொண்டு பாவத்தைப் பெற்றெடுக்கிறது. பாவம் முழு வளர்ச்சியடைந்து சாவை விளைவிக்கிறது.

என் அன்பார்ந்த சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, ஏமாந்துபோக வேண்டாம். நல்ல கொடைகள் அனைத்தும், நிறைவான வரம் எல்லாம், ஒளியின் பிறப்பிடமான விண்ணகத் தந்தையிடமிருந்தே வருகின்றன. அவரிடம் எவ்வகையான மாற்றமும் இல்லை; அவர் மாறிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் நிழல் அல்ல. தம் படைப்புகளுள் நாம் முதற்கனிகளாகும்படி உண்மையை அறிவிக்கும் வார்த்தையால் நம்மை ஈன்றெடுக்க அவர் விரும்பினார்.

Temptation is not from God

James 1: 12-18 

Happy the man who stands firm when trials come. He has proved himself, and will win the prize of life, the crown that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

  Never, when you have been tempted, say, ‘God sent the temptation’; God cannot be tempted to do anything wrong, and he does not tempt anybody. Everyone who is tempted is attracted and seduced by his own wrong desire. Then the desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it too has a child, and the child is death.

  Make no mistake about this, my dear brothers: it is all that is good, everything that is perfect, which is given us from above; it comes down from the Father of all light; with him there is no such thing as alteration, no shadow of a change. By his own choice he made us his children by the message of the truth so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all that he had created.
