A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 3:22-30 

The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, ‘Beelzebul is in him’ and, ‘It is through the prince of devils that he casts devils out.’ So he called them to him and spoke to them in parables, ‘How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot last. And if a household is divided against itself, that household can never stand. Now if Satan has rebelled against himself and is divided, he cannot stand either – it is the end of him. But no one can make his way into a strong man’s house and burgle his property unless he has tied up the strong man first. Only then can he burgle his house.

  ‘I tell you solemnly, all men’s sins will be forgiven, and all their blasphemies; but let anyone blaspheme against the Holy Spirit and he will never have forgiveness: he is guilty of an eternal sin.’ This was because they were saying, ‘An unclean spirit is in him.’

Christ offers himself only once to take on the faults of many

A reading from the letter to the Hebrews 9:15, 24-28 

Christ brings a new covenant, as the mediator, only so that the people who were called to an eternal inheritance may actually receive what was promised: his death took place to cancel the sins that infringed the earlier covenant. It is not as though Christ had entered a man-made sanctuary which was only modelled on the real one; but it was heaven itself, so that he could appear in the actual presence of God on our behalf. And he does not have to offer himself again and again, like the high priest going into the sanctuary year after year with the blood that is not his own, or else he would have had to suffer over and over again since the world began. Instead of that, he has made his appearance once and for all, now at the end of the last age, to do away with sin by sacrificing himself. Since men only die once, and after that comes judgement, so Christ, too, offers himself only once to take the faults of many on himself, and when he appears a second time, it will not be to deal with sin but to reward with salvation those who are waiting for him.

நீங்கள் கேட்ட மறைநூல் வாக்கு இன்று நிறைவேறிற்று.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 1-4; 4: 14-21

மாண்புமிகு தியோபில் அவர்களே, நம்மிடையே நிறைவேறிய நிகழ்ச்சிகளை முறைப்படுத்தி ஒரு வரலாறு எழுதப் பலர் முயன்றுள்ளனர்; தொடக்க முதல் நேரில் கண்டும் இறைவார்த்தையை அறிவித்தும் வந்த ஊழியர் நம்மிடம் ஒப்படைத்துள்ளவாறே எழுத முயன்றனர்.

அது போலவே நானும் எல்லாவற்றையும் தொடக்கத்திலிருந்தே கருத்தாய் ஆய்ந்து நீர் கேட்டறிந்தவை உறுதியானவை எனத் தெரிந்துகொள்ளும் பொருட்டு, அவற்றை ஒழுங்குபடுத்தி உமக்கு எழுதுவது நலமெனக் கண்டேன்.

அலகையினால் சோதிக்கப்பட்ட பின்பு, இயேசு தூய ஆவியின் வல்லமை உடையவராய்க் கலிலேயாவுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போனார். அவரைப் பற்றிய பேச்சு சுற்றுப்புறம் எங்கும் பரவியது. அவர் அவர்களுடைய தொழுகைக்கூடங்களில் கற்பித்து வந்தார். எல்லாரும் அவரைப்பற்றிப் பெருமையாகப் பேசினர்.

இயேசு தாம் வளர்ந்த ஊராகிய நாசரேத்துக்கு வந்தார். தமது வழக்கத்தின்படி ஓய்வுநாளில் தொழுகைக்கூடத்திற்குச் சென்று வாசிக்க எழுந்தார். இறைவாக்கினர் எசாயாவின் சுருளேடு அவரிடம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. அவர் அதைப் பிரித்தபோது கண்ட பகுதியில் இவ்வாறு எழுதியிருந்தது:

‘‘ஆண்டவருடைய ஆவி என்மேல் உளது; ஏனெனில், அவர் எனக்கு அருள்பொழிவு செய்துள்ளார். ஏழைகளுக்கு நற்செய்தியை அறிவிக்கவும் சிறைப்பட்டோர் விடுதலை அடைவர், பார்வையற்றோர் பார்வை பெறுவர் என முழக்கமிடவும் ஒடுக்கப்பட்டோரை விடுதலை செய்து அனுப்பவும் ஆண்டவர் அருள்தரும் ஆண்டினை முழக்கமிட்டு அறிவிக்கவும் அவர் என்னை அனுப்பியுள்ளார்.”

பின்னர் அந்த ஏட்டைச் சுருட்டி ஏவலரிடம் கொடுத்துவிட்டு அமர்ந்தார். தொழுகைக்கூடத்தில் இருந்தவர்களின் கண்கள் அனைத்தும் அவரையே உற்று நோக்கியிருந்தன. அப்பொழுது அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, ‘‘நீங்கள் கேட்ட இந்த மறைநூல் வாக்கு இன்று நிறைவேறிற்று” என்றார்.

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 12: 12-30

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

உடல் ஒன்றே; உறுப்புகள் பல. உடலின் உறுப்புகள் பலவாயினும் உடல் ஒன்றாய் இருப்பதுபோல கிறிஸ்துவும் இருக்கிறார். ஏனெனில், யூதரானாலும் கிரேக்கரானாலும், அடிமைகளானாலும் உரிமைக் குடிமக்களானாலும் நாம் எல்லாரும் ஒரே தூய ஆவியால் ஒரே உடலாய் இருக்கும்படி திருமுழுக்குப் பெற்றோம். அந்த ஒரே ஆவியையே பானமாகவும் பெற்றோம்.

உடல் ஒரே உறுப்பால் ஆனது அல்ல; பல உறுப்புகளால் ஆனது. ‘‘நான் கை அல்ல; ஆகவே இவ்வுடலைச் சேர்ந்தவன் அல்ல” எனக் கால் சொல்லுமானால், அது அவ்வுடலைச் சேர்ந்ததில்லை என்றாகிவிடுமா? ‘‘நான் கண் அல்ல; ஆகவே இவ்வுடலைச் சேர்ந்தவன் அல்ல” எனக் காது சொல்லுமானால், அது அவ்வுடலைச் சேர்ந்ததில்லை என்றாகிவிடுமா? முழு உடலும் கண்ணாயிருந்தால் கேட்பது எப்படி? முழு உடலும் காதாயிருந்தால் முகர்வது எப்படி?

உண்மையில் கடவுள் ஒவ்வோர் உறுப்பையும் தாம் விரும்பியவாறே உடலில் அமைத்தார். அவை யாவும் ஒரே உறுப்பாய் இருந்தால் உடல் என ஒன்று இருக்குமா? எனவேதான் பல உறுப்புகளை உடையதாய் இருந்தாலும் உடல் ஒன்றே. கண் கையைப் பார்த்து, ‘நீ எனக்குத் தேவையில்லை’ என்றோ தலை கால்களைப் பார்த்து, ‘நீங்கள் எனக்குத் தேவையில்லை’ என்றோ சொல்ல முடியாது.

மாறாக, உடலில் மிக வலுவற்றனவாய்த் தோன்றும் உறுப்புகளே மிகவும் தேவையானவையாய் இருக்கின்றன. உடலின் மதிப்புக் குறைவான உறுப்புகள் என நமக்குத் தோன்றுபவற்றிற்கே நாம் மிகுந்த மதிப்புக் கொடுக்கிறோம். நம் மறைவான உறுப்புகளே மிகுந்த மதிப்புப் பெறுகின்றன. மறைந்திராத நம் உறுப்புகளுக்கு அது தேவையில்லை. மாறாக, மதிப்புக் குறைந்த உறுப்புகளுக்கு மிகுந்த மதிப்புக் கொடுத்தே கடவுள் உடலை ஒன்றித்து உருவாக்கினார். உடலில் பிளவு ஏற்படாமல், ஒவ்வோர் உறுப்பும் மற்ற உறுப்புகளின் மீது ஒரேவிதக் கவலை கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்றே இப்படிச் செய்தார். ஓர் உறுப்பு துன்புற்றால் அதனுடன் மற்ற எல்லா உறுப்புகளும் சேர்ந்து துன்புறும். ஓர் உறுப்பு பெருமை பெற்றால் அதனுடன் மற்ற எல்லா உறுப்புகளும் சேர்ந்து மகிழ்ச்சியுறும்.

நீங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவின் உடல்; ஒவ்வொருவரும் அதன் தனித்தனி உறுப்புகள். அவ்வாறே திருச்சபையிலும் கடவுள் முதலாவது திருத்தூதர்களையும், இரண்டாவது இறைவாக்கினர்களையும், மூன்றாவது போதகர்களையும், பின்னர் வல்லசெயல் செய்வோர்களையும், அதன்பின் பிணிதீர்க்கும் அருள்கொடை பெற்றவர்கள், துணை நிற்பவர்கள், தலைமையேற்று நடத்துபவர்கள், பல்வகை பரவசப் பேச்சுப் பேசுகிறவர்கள் ஆகியோரையும் ஏற்படுத்தினார். எல்லாருமே திருத்தூதர்களா? எல்லாருமே இறைவாக்கினர்களா? எல்லாருமே போதகர்களா? எல்லாருமே வல்லசெயல் செய்பவர்களா? இல்லை. எல்லாருமே பிணி தீர்க்கும் அருள்கொடையைப் பெற்றவர்களா? எல்லாருமே பரவசப் பேச்சுப் பேசுகிறவர்களா? எல்லாருமே விளக்கம் அளிப்பவர்களா? இல்லையே!

அந்நாள்களில்

ஏழாம் மாதம் முதல் நாள் குரு எஸ்ரா ஆடவர், பெண்டிர், புரிந்து கொள்ளும் ஆற்றலுள்ள சிறுவர் அனைவரும் அடங்கிய சபை முன்னிலையில் திருநூலைக் கொண்டு வந்தார். தண்ணீர் வாயிலுக்கு முன் இருந்த வளாகத்தில் காலைமுதல் நண்பகல்வரை ஆடவரையும், பெண்டிரையும், புரிந்து கொள்ளும் ஆற்றலுள்ள சிறுவரையும் பார்த்து அதை உரக்க வாசித்தார். எல்லா மக்களும் திருநூலுக்குச் செவி கொடுத்தனர்.

திருநூல் வல்லுநரான எஸ்ராவோ இதற்காகச் செய்யப்பட்ட மரமேடையின் மேல் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தார். எஸ்ரா மக்களை விட உயரமான இடத்தில் நின்றதால் அவர் திருநூலைத் திறந்தபோது எல்லா மக்களும் அதைப் பார்த்தார்கள்; திருநூலைத் திறந்தபோது எல்லா மக்களும் எழுந்து நின்றார்கள். அப்பொழுது எஸ்ரா மாபெரும் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவரை வாழ்த்தினார். மக்கள் எல்லாரும் கைகளை உயர்த்தி “ஆமென்! ஆமென்!” என்று பதிலுரைத்தார்கள்; பணிந்து, முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து ஆண்டவரைத் தொழுதார்கள்.

மக்களுக்குப் புரியும்படி தெளிவாகவும், பொருளோடும் கடவுளின் திருச்சட்டத்தை உரக்க வாசித்தார்கள். ஆதலால் மக்களும் வாசிக்கப்பட்டதன் பொருளைப் புரிந்துகொண்டனர். ஆளுநர் நெகேமியாவும், குருவும் திருநூல் வல்லுநருமான எஸ்ராவும், விளக்கம் கூறிய லேவியர்களும் மக்கள் அனைவரையும் நோக்கி: “இன்று கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவரின் புனித நாள்; எனவே நீங்கள் அழுது புலம்ப வேண்டாம்” என்றனர். ஏனெனில் மக்கள் அனைவரும் திருச்சட்டத்தின் சொற்களைக் கேட்டதிலிருந்து அழுது கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அவர் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “நீங்கள் போய்க் கொழுத்தவற்றை உண்டு, இனிய திராட்சை இரசத்தைக் குடியுங்கள்; எதுவும் தயார் செய்யாதவருக்குச் சிறிது அனுப்பி வையுங்கள். ஏனென்றால், நம் ஆண்டவரின் புனித நாள் இதுவே; எனவே வருந்த வேண்டாம்; ஏனெனில் ஆண்டவரின் மகிழ்வே உங்களது வலிமை” என்று கூறினார்.

Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke

Many have undertaken to write an account

of the things that have been done among us,

    as handed down to us

by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses

and servants of the word.

    Therefore I too,

having gathered together in detail

all that has taken place from the beginning, have decided

to write for you, most excellent Theophilus,

a continuous account,

    so that you may be well aware

of the truth of the teachings you have heard.

    At that time,

when Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit

to Galilee,

his fame spread throughout the whole region.

    He taught in their synagogues,

and everyone praised him.

He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up.

As was his custom, he entered the synagogue on the sabbath day

and stood up to read.

    And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. And

he opened the book and found the passage where it is written:

    The Spirit of the Lord is upon me ,

because the Lord has anointed me.

He has sent me to preach good news to the poor,

to proclaim freedom to the captives

and recovery of sight to the blind,

to set at liberty the oppressed,

    to proclaim the acceptable year

of the Lord.

    And Jesus closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down.

The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.

    Then he began to say to them,

“Today this scripture has been fulfilled

in your hearing.”

    – Let us acclaim the Word of God.

Brothers,

    let us consider a comparison:

Our body is one,

yet it has many members;

and all the members, though many,

are one body.

So it is with Christ.

    For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body , whether

Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free; by one Spirit we were all quenched.     The human body is not made up of one member but of many.

    Now you are the body of Christ

, and each of

you is a member of the body.
