"They will condemn him to death"
A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Matthew (20, 17-28)
At that time Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the Twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them: “Here we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of man will be delivered to the high priests and scribes, they will condemn him to death and will deliver him to the heathen nations to mock him, to scourge him and to crucify him; on the third day he will rise again. "
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached Jesus with her sons James and John, and she bowed down to ask him. Jesus said to her, “What do you want? "She replied:" Order that my two sons here sit, one on your right and the other on your left, in your Kingdom. Jesus replied, "You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup I'm going to drink? "They say to him," We can. "He said to them:" You will drink my cup; as to sitting on my right and on my left, it is not for me to grant it; there are those for whom it is prepared by my Father. The ten others, who had heard, were indignant at the two brothers. Jesus called them and said, “You know that the rulers of the nations command them as masters, and the great make their power felt. Among you, it should not be so: he who wishes to become great among you will be your servant; and whoever wants to be among you first will be your slave. So the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for the multitude. "
