The Father and I are one

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 10:22-30

At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the colonnade of Solomon. So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

April 28th :  Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 87:1–3, 4–5, 6–7 (Psalm 117:1a)

Response : O praise the Lord, all you nations.

Founded by him on the holy mountain, the Lord loves the gates of Sion, more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Of you are told glorious things, you, O city of God!

R.: O praise the Lord, all you nations.

“Rahab and Babylon I will count among those who know me; of Tyre, Philistia, Ethiopia, it is told, ‘There was this one born.’ But of Sion it shall be said, ‘Each one was born in her.’” He, the Most High, established it.

R.: O praise the Lord, all you nations.

In his register of peoples the Lord writes, “Here was this one born.” The singers cry out in chorus, “In you, all find their home.”

R.: O praise the Lord, all you nations.

Alleluia
V. Alleluia.

R. Alleluia.

V. My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord, and I know them, and they follow me.

R. Alleluia.

They started preaching to the Greeks, proclaiming the Lord Jesus

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles  11:19-26

In those days: Those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen travelled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists also, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. The report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose, for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 10:11-18

At that time: Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

 April 27th :  Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 42:2–3; 43:3, 4 (R. see 42:3ab)

Response :  My soul is thirsting for you, the living God.

Like the deer that yearns for running streams, so my soul is yearning for you, my God. My soul is thirsting for God, the living God; when can I enter and appear before the face of God?

R.:  My soul is thirsting for you, the living God.

O send forth your light and your truth; they will guide me on. They will bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.

R.:  My soul is thirsting for you, the living God.

And I will come to the altar of God, to God, my joy and gladness. To you will I give thanks on the harp, O God, my God.

R.:  My soul is thirsting for you, the living God.

Alleluia

V. Alleluia.

R. Alleluia.

V. I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my own and my own know me.

 April 27th : First Reading

God can grant even the pagans the repentance that leads to life
A Reading from the Acts of Apostles 11: 1-18
In those days: The apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him, saying, “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.” But Peter began and explained it to them in order: “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me. Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air. And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ But I said, ‘By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’ This happened three times, and all was drawn up again into heaven. And behold, at that very moment three men arrived at the house in which we were, sent to me from Caesarea. And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house. And he told us how he had seen the angel stand in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa and bring Simon who is called Peter; he will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?” When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
