FIRST READING
The Law was given by Moses
Reading the book of Exodus (20: 1-17)
In those days, on Sinai, God spoke all these words: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You will not have other gods in front of me. Thou shalt not make any idols or images of that which is above in the heavens, or below on the earth, or in the waters below the earth. You will not bow down to these gods to worship them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God: among those who hate me, I punish the fault of the fathers on the sons, until the third and the fourth generation; but those who love me and keep my commandments, I show them my faithfulness to the thousandth generation. You shall not call on the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold unpunished anyone who calls on his name in vain. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. For six days you will work and do all your work; but the seventh day is the day of rest, a Sabbath in honor of the Lord your God: you shall do no work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your beasts, nor the immigrant who is in your city. For in six days the Lord made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. This is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. nor the immigrant who is in your city. For in six days the Lord made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. This is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. nor the immigrant who is in your city. For in six days the Lord made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. This is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Honor your father and your mother, so that you may have long life on the land which the Lord your God gives you. You will not commit murder. You will not commit adultery. You will not steal. You will not bear false witness against your neighbor. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house; Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey: nothing that is his. "
The Word of the Lord.
