FIRST READING
"With our hearts broken, our minds humiliated, receive us"
Reading from the book of the prophet Daniel (3, 25.34-43)
In those days, Azarias, standing, prayed thus; in the midst of the fire, opening his mouth, he said: "For the sake of your name, do not surrender to us forever, and do not break your covenant. Do not take away your mercy from us, because of Abraham your friend, Isaac your servant, and Israel whom you have consecrated. You said that you would make their descendants as numerous as the stars of the sky, as the sand on the shore of the seas.
Now here we are, O Master, the fewest of all peoples, humbled today over all the earth, because of our sins. At this time, there is no longer any prince or chief or prophet, no more holocaust or sacrifice, no more oblation or incense offering, no more place to offer you our firstfruits to obtain your mercy. . But, with our hearts broken, our minds humbled, receive us, like a burnt offering of rams, bulls, fat lambs by the thousands. May our sacrifice on this day find favor before you, for there is no shame for those who hope in you.
And now, with all our hearts, we follow you, we fear you and we seek your face. Do not leave us ashamed, deal with us according to your indulgence and the abundance of your mercy. Deliver us by renewing your wonders, glorify your name, Lord. "
The Word of the Lord.
