"As the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son gives life to whom he wants" 

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (5, 17-30) 

At that time, after healing the cripple on a Sabbath day, Jesus told the Jews: “My Father is always at work, and I also am at work. This is why, more and more, the Jews sought to kill him, for not only did he not keep the Sabbath, but also he said that God was his own Father, and he thus made himself equal with God.

Jesus therefore spoke again. He told them: “Amen, amen, I say to you: the Son can do nothing of himself, he only does what he sees the Father doing; what this one does, the Son does likewise. For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he does. He will show him even greater works, so that you will be amazed. As the Father, in fact, raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son, too, makes live whoever he wants. For the Father judges no one: he has given the Son all power to judge, so that all may honor the Son as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him either. Amen, amen, I say to you: whoever hears my word and believes on him who sent me obtains eternal life and escapes judgment,

Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming - and it is now - when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear it will live. As the Father, in fact, has life in himself, so he gave the Son to have life in himself; and he gave him power to exercise judgment, because he is the Son of man. Don't be surprised; the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice; then those who have done good will come out to be resurrected and live, those who have done evil to be resurrected and be judged.

I can't do anything on my own; I render my judgment according to what I hear, and my judgment is right, because I am not seeking to do my will, but the will of Him who sent me. "
