"Give up the evil you want to do to your people"
Reading from the book of Exodus (32, 7-14)
In those days the Lord spoke to Moses: “Go, come down, for your people have corrupted themselves, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt. It didn't take long for them to deviate from the path I had ordered them to follow! They made a calf of molten metal and bowed down to it. They offered sacrifices to him, proclaiming, “Here are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.” "
The Lord said to Moses again:" I see that this people are a people with a stiff neck. Now let me do it; my anger will ignite against them and I will exterminate them! But from you I will make a great nation. "
Moses soothed the face of the Lord his God, saying: "Lord, why should your anger be kindled against your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with your great strength and with your mighty hand? Why give the Egyptians the opportunity to say, “He brought them out out of wickedness; he wanted to kill them in the mountains and exterminate them on the face of the earth ”? Come back from the heat of your anger, renounce the harm you want to do to your people. Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to whom you swore by yourself: “I will multiply your offspring like the stars of heaven; I will give, as I said, all this land to your descendants, and it will be their inheritance forever. ” "
The Lord gave up the evil that he wanted to do to his people.
The Word of the Lord.
