FIRST READING
"You killed the Prince of life, he whom God raised from the dead"
Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (3, 11-26)
In those days, the cripple whom Peter and John had just healed never let go of them. All the people ran to them at the Portico called Solomon. People were amazed. Seeing this, Peter called out to the people: "Men of Israel, why are you astonished? Why fix our eyes on us, as if it is by virtue of our personal power or our piety that we have given him to walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, while you, you had delivered him, you had denied him in the presence of Pilate who was determined to release him . You have denied the Holy and the Righteous, and you have asked for the grace of a murderer. You have killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, we are witnesses. Everything is based on faith in the name of Jesus Christ: it is this name itself which has just established this man whom you look at and know; yes, the faith which comes through Jesus restored him to his physical integrity, in the presence of all of you. Besides, brothers, I know very well that you acted in ignorance, you and your leaders. But God thus fulfilled what he had announced in advance by the mouths of all the prophets: that Christ, his Messiah, would suffer.
Convert and turn to God for your sins to be blotted out. Thus will come the times of freshness from the Lord, and he will send the Christ Jesus who is destined for you. Heaven must indeed welcome him until the time when everything will be restored, as God had said by the mouth of the saints, those of old, his prophets. Moses said: The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brethren; you will listen to him in whatever he says to you. Whoever does not listen to this prophet will be cut off from the people. Then all the prophets who have spoken since Samuel and his successors, however numerous they were, announced the days in which we are today. It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the Covenant that God made with your fathers, when he said to Abraham: In your descendants all the families of the earth will be blessed. It is for you first that God raised up his Servant, and sent him to bless you, provided that each of you turn away from his wickedness. "
The Word of the Lord.
