FIRST READING 

"I will bring back the rest of my sheep, I will raise up pastors for them" 

A Reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah (23, 1-6) 

What a misfortune for you, pastors! You let perish and you scatter the sheep of my pasture - oracle of the Lord! Therefore thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, against the shepherds who lead my people: You have scattered my sheep, you have driven them out, and you have not taken care of them. Well ! I will take care of you, because of the malice of your deeds - oracle of the Lord. Then I will gather the rest of my sheep myself from all the countries where I have driven them. I will bring them back to their enclosure, they will be fruitful and will multiply. I will raise up pastors for them who will lead them; they will no longer be afraid or afraid, and none will be lost - oracle of the Lord; behold, days come - oracle of the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Germ: he will reign as a true king, he will act with understanding, he will exercise righteousness and justice in the land. In those days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell in safety. Here is the name that will be given to him: "The-Lord-is-our-righteousness." "
