In those days it was announced to the king of Egypt that the people of Israel had fled. So Pharaoh and his servants changed their minds towards this people. They said, "What have we done by letting Israel go: it will no longer be in our service!" Pharaoh had his chariot harnessed and his troops assembled; he took six hundred chosen chariots and all the chariots of Egypt, each with his crew. The Lord made sure that Pharaoh, king of Egypt, persisted in pursuing the children of Israel, while they advanced freely.
