"It is to preserve your life that God sent me to Egypt"
A Reading from the book of Genesis (44, 18-21. 23b-29; 45, 1-5)
In those days Judah and his brethren, the sons of Jacob, had been brought before Joseph. Judah approached him and said, "Please, my lord, allow your servant to speak to you without my lord's anger being kindled against your servant, for you are as great as Pharaoh!" My lord had asked his servants: “Do you still have your father or another brother?” And we answered my Lord: “We still have our old father and a little brother, the child he had in his old age; this one had a brother who died, so he remains the only child of his mother, and our father loves him! ” So you said to your servants: “Bring him to me: I want to take care of him. If your younger brother does not come back with you, you will no longer be admitted to my presence. ” Therefore, when we returned to our father your servant, we told him my lord's words. And, when our father said: “Go back to buy us some food”, we replied: “We will not be able to leave if our youngest brother is not with us, because we will not be able to be admitted in presence of this man if our younger brother is not with us. ” So our father, your servant, said to us: “You know very well that my wife Rachel only gave me two sons. The first one has disappeared. Surely, a ferocious beast will have torn him to pieces, and I have never seen him again. If you take this one away from me again and misfortune befalls him, you will make my white hair descend miserably into Hades. ” Joseph could not contain himself in front of all the people in his suite, and he cried out: “Get everyone out. When there was no one left with him, he made himself known to his brothers. He wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and even the house of Pharaoh. He said to his brothers: “I am Joseph! Does my father still live? But his brothers were unable to answer him, they were so upset to find themselves in front of him. Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me. "They came near, and he said to them," I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold to be taken to Egypt. But now do not be upset, and do not be tormented for having sold me, for it is to preserve your life that God sent me here before you. " He wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and even the house of Pharaoh. He said to his brothers: “I am Joseph! Does my father still live?
