GOSPEL
“Lord, order me to come to you on the water”
Alleluia. Alleluia.
Rabbi, you are the Son of God!
You are the King of Israel!
Alleluia. (Jn 1, 49b)
Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 14, 22-36
You can choose between the following two texts.
1. (preferably to be used in years B and C; 2021: year B)
Jesus had fed the crowd in the wilderness.
He immediately forced the disciples to get into the boat
and precede him to the other bank,
while he dismissed the crowds.
When he had sent them away,
he climbed the mountain, aside, to pray.
In the evening, he was there, alone.
The boat was already a good distance from land,
it was being beaten by the waves,
for the wind was against it.
Towards the end of the night, Jesus came to them
walking on the sea.
Seeing him walking on the sea,
the disciples were shocked.
They said,
“He's a ghost. "
Frightened, they began to scream.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them:
“Trust! It's me ; fear no longer! "
Peter then spoke:
" Lord, if it is really you,
order me to come to you on the waters. "
Jesus said to him:
" Come! "
Peter got out of the boat
and walked on the water toward Jesus.
But, seeing the force of the wind, he was afraid
and, as it began to sink, he cried:
“Lord, save me! "
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, grabbed him
and said,
" You of little faith,
why did you doubt? "
And when they got into the boat,
the wind ceased.
Then those who were in the boat
bowed down to him, and they said to him:
“Truly, you are the Son of God! "
After the crossing, they landed at Gennesaret.
The people of that place recognized Jesus;
they sent for the whole region,
and all the sick were brought to him.
They begged him to let them only
touch the fringe of his cloak,
and all who did so were saved.

GOSPEL
“Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be plucked up”
Alleluia. Alleluia.
Rabbi, you are the Son of God!
You are the King of Israel!
Alleluia. (Jn 1, 49b)
Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 15, 1-2.10-14
2 . (for year A, where the above gospel was read the day before)
At that time,
Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem
approached Jesus and said to him:
“Why are your disciples breaking
the tradition of the elders?
Indeed, they do not wash their hands
before eating. "
Jesus called the crowd and said to them:
" Listen and understand well!
It is not what goes into the mouth
that makes a man unclean;
but what comes out of the mouth
is what makes a man unclean. "
Then the disciples came and said to him:
" Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when
they heard this saying? "
He replied:
" Any plant
that my heavenly Father did not plant
will be uprooted.
Leave them !
These are the blind leading the blind.
If a blind man guides a blind man,
both will fall into a hole. "
