A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Mark (10, 32-45) 

At that time the disciples were on their way up to Jerusalem; Jesus walked before them; they were terrified, and those who followed were also in awe. Taking the Twelve to him again, he began to tell them what was going to happen to him: “Here we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of man will be handed over to the high priests and to the scribes; they will condemn him to death, they will deliver him to the heathen nations, which will mock him, spit on him, scourge him and kill him, and after three days he will be resurrected. "

So James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approach Jesus and say to him: “Master, what we are going to ask of you, we would like you to do for us. He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" FIRST READING 

"Let the nations learn that there is no god apart from you" 

A Reading from the book of Ben Sira the Wise (36, 1-2.5-6.13.16-22) 

Have mercy on us, Master and God of all; spread fear on all nations. Let them learn it, as we have learned: there is no god apart from you, Lord. Renew wonders, recommence wonders. Gather the tribes of Jacob; as in the early days, give them your inheritance. Have mercy on the people bearing your name, Israel who are your firstborn. Have compassion on your holy city, Jerusalem, the place of your rest. Fill Zion with your praise, and your sanctuary with your glory. Bear witness to your creatures of the first days; awaken the prophecies made in your name. Give the reward to those who are waiting for you; may your prophets be recognized as worthy of faith. Hear the prayers of your servants, according to your loving kindness to your people. And everyone on earth will know it:

திருச்சட்டத்தைக் கடைப்பிடிப்பது பல காணிக்கைகளைக் கொடுப்பதற்கு ஈடாகும்; கட்டளைகளைக் கருத்தில் கொள்வது நல்லுறவுப் பலி செலுத்துவதற்கு ஒப்பாகும். அன்புக்குக் கைம்மாறு செய்வது மாவுப் படையல் அளிப்பதற்கு இணையாகும்.

தருமம் செய்வது நன்றிப் பலி செலுத்துவதாகும். தீச்செயலை விட்டுவிடுதல் ஆண்டவருக்கு விருப்பமானது; அநீதியைக் கைவிடுதல் பாவக் கழுவாய்ப் பலியாகும்.

ஆண்டவர் திருமுன் வெறுங்கையோடு வராதே; கட்டளையை நிறைவேற்றவே பலிகளையெல்லாம் செலுத்து. நீதிமான்கள் காணிக்கைகளைச் செலுத்தும்போது பலிபீடத்தில் கொழுப்பு வழிந்தோட, உன்னத இறைவன் திருமுன் நறுமணம் எழுகிறது. நீதிமான்களின் பலி ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளத்தக்கது; அதன் நினைவு என்றும் நீங்காது. ஆண்டவரைத் தாராளமாய் மாட்சிமைப்படுத்து; உன் உழைப்பின் முதற்கனிகளைக் கொடுப்பதில் கணக்குப் பார்க்காதே. கொடை வழங்கும்போதெல்லாம் முகமலர்ச்சியோடு கொடு; பத்திலொரு பங்கை மகிழ்ச்சியோடு கடவுளுக்கு உரித்தாக்கு.

உன்னத இறைவன் உனக்குக் கொடுத்திருப்பதற்கு ஏற்ப நீயும் அவருக்குக் கொடு. உன்னால் முடிந்த அளவுக்குத் தாராளமாய்க் கொடு. ஆண்டவரே கைம்மாறு செய்பவர்; ஏழு மடங்கு உனக்குத் திருப்பித் தருபவர். ஆண்டவருக்குக் கையூட்டுக் கொடுக்க எண்ணாதே. அவர் அதை ஏற்கமாட்டார். அநீத பலியில் நம்பிக்கை வைக்காதே. ஆண்டவர் நடுவராய் இருக்கிறார்; அவரிடம் ஒருதலைச் சார்பு என்பதே கிடையாது.

FIRST READING 

"Clinging to the commandments 

is offering a sacrifice of peace" 

A Reading from the book of Ben Sira the Wise (35, 1-15) 

Keeping the Law is making multiple offerings; clinging to the commandments is a sacrifice of peace. It is to bring an offering of the flower of flour to be grateful; giving alms is offering a sacrifice of praise. The goodwill of the Lord is obtained by turning away from evil; one offers a sacrifice of atonement by turning away from injustice. Do not come before the Lord empty-handed. Do all of this for it is his command. The offering of a righteous man is like the fat of the sacrifices on the altar, its pleasant smell arises before the Most High. The sacrifice of a righteous man is approved by God who will remember it. Give glory to the Lord without looking on: do not take away any of the firstfruits of your harvest. Every time you donate shows a cheerful face; devote with good heart to God the tenth of what you earn. Give to the Most High according to what he gives you, and, without being watching, according to your resources. For the Lord is the one who pays back; it will give you back seven times more than you gave. Do not try to influence him with gifts, he will not accept them; do not put your trust in an unjust sacrifice. For the Lord is a judge who shows himself impartial towards people.

அக்காலத்தில்

சிலுவை அருகில் இயேசுவின் தாயும், தாயின் சகோதரியும் குளோப்பாவின் மனைவியுமான மரியாவும், மகதலா மரியாவும் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தனர்.

இயேசு தம் தாயையும் அருகில் நின்ற தம் அன்புச் சீடரையும் கண்டு தம் தாயிடம், “அம்மா, இவரே உம் மகன்” என்றார். பின்னர் தம் சீடரிடம், “இவரே உம் தாய்” என்றார். அந்நேரமுதல் அச்சீடர் அவரைத் தம் வீட்டில் ஏற்று ஆதரவு அளித்து வந்தார்.
