“Here we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered ”
A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Mark (10, 32-45)
At that time the disciples were on their way up to Jerusalem; Jesus walked before them; they were terrified, and those who followed were also in awe. Taking the Twelve to him again, he began to tell them what was going to happen to him: “Here we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of man will be handed over to the high priests and to the scribes; they will condemn him to death, they will deliver him to the heathen nations, which will mock him, spit on him, scourge him and kill him, and after three days he will be resurrected. "
So James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approach Jesus and say to him: “Master, what we are going to ask of you, we would like you to do for us. He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" They answered him: "Grant us to sit, one on your right and the other on your left, in your glory. "Jesus said to them," You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup I'm going to drink, be baptized with the baptism I'm going to be immersed in? They said to him, "We can. "Jesus said to them," The cup which I am going to drink you shall drink; and you will be baptized with the baptism in which I am going to be immersed. As for sitting on my right or on my left, it is not for me to grant it; there are those for whom it is prepared. "
The ten others, who had heard, began to be indignant with Jacques and Jean. Jesus called them and said to them: “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the nations command them as masters; the great make them feel their power. Among you, it does not have to be so. Whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant. Whosoever wishes to be among you first, shall be the slave of all: for the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for the multitude. "
