Jesus, like Elijah and Elisha, is not sent only to the Jews
A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Luke (4, 24-30)
In the synagogue of Nazareth, Jesus declared: “Truly, I say to you, no prophet finds a favorable reception in his country. Truly I say to you: In the days of the prophet Elijah, when for three and a half years the sky withheld the rain, and a great famine struck all over the earth, there were many widows in Israel; yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to the city of Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a foreign widow. In the time of the prophet Elisha there were many lepers in Israel; and none of them was purified, but Naaman the Syrian. "
At these words, in the synagogue, everyone became furious. They got up, pushed Jesus out of the city, and led him to a steep slope on the hill where their city is built, to throw him down. But he, passing through the midst of them, was on his way.
