FIRST READING
"I want fidelity, not sacrifice"
Reading from the book of the prophet Hosea (6, 1-6)
Come, let's go back to the Lord! he hurt, but he will heal us; he struck, but he will heal us. After two days, he will bring us back to life; he will raise us up on the third day: then we will live before his face.
Let us strive to know the Lord: his rising is as sure as the dawn; it will come to us like rain, the downpour that waters the earth.
- What shall I do with you, Ephraim? What will I do with you, Judah? Your fidelity, a morning mist, a departing dawn dew. This is why I have struck by my prophets, given death by the words of my mouth: my judgment springs forth like light. I want faithfulness, not sacrifice, the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
The Word of the Lord.
