"Eight days later, Jesus comes"
A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (20, 19-31)
It was after the death of Jesus. In the evening, on that first day of the week, when the doors of the place where the disciples were standing were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came, and he was there among them. He said to them: “Peace be with you! After that, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again: “Peace be with you! As the Father sent me, so I send you. "Having thus spoken, he breathed on them and said to them:" Receive the Holy Spirit. To whom you forgive his sins, they will be forgiven; to whom you will maintain his sins, they will be maintained. "
Now, one of the Twelve, Thomas, called Didyma (that is, Twin), was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples said to him: “We have seen the Lord! "But he said to them:" If I don't see the nail mark in his hands, if I don't put my finger in the nail mark, if I do not put my hand in his side, no, I will not believe. ! "
Eight days later the disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Jesus comes with the doors locked, and there he was in the midst of them. He said: “Peace be with you! Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; reach out your hand, and put it in my side: stop being unbelieving, be a believer. Then Thomas said to him: "My Lord and my God!" "Jesus said to him:" Because you have seen me, you believe. Blessed are those who believe without seeing. "
There are still many other signs that Jesus did in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book. But these were written so that you would believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you might have life in his name.
The Gospel of the Lord.
