SECOND READING 

"It is he who obtains forgiveness of our sins and those of the whole world" 

Reading from the first letter of Saint John (2, 1-5a) 

My little children, I am writing this to you so that you may avoid sin. But if one of us comes to sin, we have a defender before the Father: Jesus Christ, the Righteous. It is he who, by his sacrifice, obtains the forgiveness of our sins, not only of ours, but also of those of the whole world. This is how we know we know him: if we keep his commandments. He who says, "I know him," and who does not keep his commandments, is a liar: the truth is not in him. But in one who keeps his word, the love of God truly reaches perfection.
