"The children of Israel entered the midst of the sea on dry ground"

A Reading from the book of Exodus (14, 21 - 15, 1a)
In those days Moses stretched out his arm over the sea. The Lord drove out the sea all night with a strong east wind; he dried up the sea, and the waters were divided. The children of Israel entered the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall on their right and on their left. The Egyptians pursued them; and all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his warriors went in behind them into the midst of the sea: at the last hours of the night the Lord watched from the pillar of fire and cloud the army of the Egyptians, and he hit her with panic. He bent the wheels of their chariots, and they had great difficulty driving them. The Egyptians cried out, "Let us flee from Israel, for it is the Lord who fights for them against us!" "The Lord said to Moses:" Stretch out your arm over the sea: let the waters return to the Egyptians, their chariots and their warriors! Moses stretched out his arm over the sea. At daybreak the sea resumed its place; in their flight the Egyptians encountered them, and the Lord threw them down into the midst of the sea. The waters flowed back and covered the chariots and the warriors, all Pharaoh's army that had entered the sea in pursuit of them. Israel. There was not a single one left. But the children of Israel had walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea, the waters forming a wall on their right and on their left: that day the Lord saved Israel out of the hand of Egypt, and Israel saw the Egyptians who died on the seashore. Israel saw with what a mighty hand the Lord had acted against Egypt. The people feared the Lord, they put their faith in the Lord and in his servant Moses.
