GOSPEL
"Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, whoever believes in me will never be thirsty"
Alleluia. Alleluia.
Man does not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.
Alleluia. (Mt 4, 4b)
Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6 : 24-35
At that time,
when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there,
nor his disciples,
the people got into the boats
and went to Capernaum
in search of Jesus.
Finding him on the other side, they said to him,
“Rabbi, when did you get here? "
Jesus answered them,
" Truly, truly, I tell you,
you seek me,
not because you saw signs
but because you ate the loaves
and have been filled.
Work not for the food that is wasted,
but for the food that remains
until eternal life,
that which the Son of man will give you,
whom God the Father has marked with his seal. "
They said to him:
" What must we do to work the works of God? "
Jesus answered,
" The work of God
is that you believe in him whom he has sent. "
They said to him:
" What sign are you going to do
for us to see, and believe you?
What work are you going to do?
In the desert, our fathers ate the manna;
as the Scriptures say:
He gave them bread from heaven to eat. "
Jesus answered them:
" Amen, amen, I say to you:
it is not Moses.
who gave you bread from heaven;
it is my Father
who gives you the true bread from heaven.
For the bread of God
is that which comes down from heaven
and gives life to the world. "
They said to him then:
" Lord, always give us of this bread. "
Jesus answered them:
" I am the bread of life.
He who comes to me will never go hungry;
whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. "
- Let us acclaim the Word of God.
