MASS READINGS
SAMEDI 31 JUILLET 2021, General Week 17 - FRIDAY
FIRST READING
“In this jubilee year, each of you will return to your own property”
Reading the Book of Levites 25 : 1.8-17
The Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai and said:
"You will count seven weeks of years,
that is, seven times seven years,
or forty-nine years.
The seventh month, the tenth of the month,
on the feast of Atonement,
you will sound the horn for the ovation;
on that day, throughout your country, you will sound the horn.
You will make the fiftieth year a holy year,
and you will proclaim liberation for all the inhabitants of the land.
This will be the jubilee for you:
each of you will return to your property,
each of you will return to your clan.
This fiftieth year will be a jubilee year for you:
you will not sow the seeds,
you will not reap the grain that grows by itself,
you will not harvest the vine that is not pruned.
The jubilee will be holy to you,
you will eat what grows in the fields.
In this jubilee year,
each of you will return to your property.
If in the meantime you have to sell or buy,
don't exploit your compatriot.
When you buy from your compatriot,
you will take into account the years that have passed since the jubilee;
the one who sells will take into account the years that remain to run.
The more years there will be,
the more you will increase the price;
the less will be left,
the more you will reduce the price,
because the sale concerns only the number of harvests.
You will not exploit your compatriot,
you will fear your God.
I am the Lord your God. "
- Word of the Lord.
