MASS READINGS

FIRST READING
“Practice circumcision of the heart. Love the immigrant, because you were immigrants ”

Reading the book of Deuteronomy 10, 12-22

Moses said to the people,
“Now do you know, Israel, what the Lord your God is asking you?
Fear the Lord your God,
follow all his paths,
love the Lord your God,
serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
keep the commandments and decrees of the Lord
that I am giving you today for your good.

The heavens and the heights of the heavens,
the earth and all that it contains     belong to the Lord your God .
And yet, it was only to your fathers
that the Lord your God was attached out of love.
After them, among all peoples,
it is their descendants that he has chosen,
which he still does today with you.
    Practice circumcision of the heart,
no longer have a stiff neck,
for the Lord your God is the God of gods
and the Lord of lords,
the great, valiant and formidable God,
who is impartial and does not allow himself to be bought.
It is he who does justice to the orphan and the widow,
who loves the immigrant,
and who gives him food and clothing.
    So
love the immigrant, for in the land of Egypt you were immigrants.
You will fear the Lord your God,
you will serve him,
it is to him that you will remain attached,
it is by his name that you will take an oath.
He is your God, it is he whom you must praise:
he has done for you those great and dreadful things
which you have seen with your own eyes.
When your fathers arrived in Egypt,
there were only 70;
but now the Lord your God
has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven. "

            - Word of the Lord.
