GOSPEL
“They will kill him, and on the third day he will be resurrected. The sons are free from taxes ”
Alleluia. Alleluia.
By proclaiming the Gospel,
God calls you to share in
the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Alleluia. (cf. 2 Th 2:14)
Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 17, 22-27
At that time,
as Jesus and the disciples were gathered in Galilee,
he said to them:
“The Son of man is going to be delivered into the hands of men;
they will kill him,
and on the third day he will be resurrected. "
And they were greatly distressed.
As they reached Capernaum,
those who collect the royalty of the two drachmas for the Temple
came to find Peter and said to him:
“Your master pays the two drachmas well, doesn't he? "
He replied:
" Yes. "
When Peter came into the house,
Jesus spoke first:
" Simon, what is your opinion?
The kings of the earth,
who do they collect taxes from?
Of their sons, or of other people? "
Pierre answered him:
" Others. "
And Jesus continued:
" So the sons are free.
But, so as not to scandalize the people,
go therefore as far as the sea,
cast the hook,
and catch the first fish that will bite;
open your mouth,
and there you will find a four-drachma coin.
Take it, you will give it for me and for yourself. "
- Let us acclaim the Word of God.
