Did Christ come from Galilee?
A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (7, 40-53)
At that time, Jesus was teaching in the temple in Jerusalem. In the crowd, we had heard his words, and some said: "It is really he, the announced Prophet!" Others said: "He is the Christ!" But still others asked, "Can Christ come from Galilee?" Doesn't Scripture say that it is from the descendants of David and Bethlehem, the village of David, that Christ comes? So the crowd was divided because of him. A few of them wanted to stop him, but no one laid hands on him. The guards returned to the high priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn't you bring him? The guards replied, "Never has a man spoken like this!" "The Pharisees replied," So you too, have you been led astray? Is there one among the leaders of the people and the Pharisees who believed on him? As for this crowd who knows nothing about the Law, they are cursed! "
Nicodemus, one of them, the one who had previously gone to Jesus, said to them: "Does our Law allow a man to be judged without hearing him first to find out what he has done?" They answered him, "Are you also from Galilee?" Look carefully, and you will see that no prophet ever emerges from Galilee! Then they each went home.
