SECOND READING 

"Here I am, I have come, my God, to do your will, as it is written of me in the Book" 

Reading of the letter to the Hebrews (10, 4-10) 

Brethren, it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Also, when entering into the world, Christ said: You did not want a sacrifice or an offering, but you formed a body for me. You did not accept burnt offerings and sin offerings; So I said, Here I am, I have come, my God, to do your will, as it is written of me in the Book. Christ therefore begins by saying: You neither wanted nor accepted the sacrifices and the offerings, the burnt offerings and the sacrifices for sin, those which the Law prescribes to offer. Then he declares: Here I am, I have come to do your will. Thus, he suppresses the first state of affairs in order to establish the second. And it is by this will that we are sanctified, by the offering that Jesus Christ made of his body, once and for all.
