"There is no command greater than these"

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Mark (12, 28b-34)
At that time a scribe came forward to ask Jesus, "Which is the first of all the commandments?" "Jesus answered him this way:" Here is the first one: Hear, Israel: the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. And here is the second: You will love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater command than these. "The scribe continued:" Very well, Master, you said true: God is the One and there is none other than him. To love him with all his heart, with all his intelligence, with all his strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is better than any offering of burnt offerings and sacrifices. Jesus, seeing that he had made a judicious remark, said to him: "You are not far from the kingdom of God.

MASS READINGS, General Week 9 - Thursday, JUNE 03, 2021

FIRST READING

“Deign to have mercy on me and her, and lead us together into old age. "

A Reading from the book of Tobit (6, 10-11; 7, 1.9-17; 8, 4-9a)
In those days, when Raphael entered Media and was already approaching Ecbatane, he said to the boy: "Tobias, my brother", and the latter replied: "What is it? Raphael went on: "We must stay with Ragouel tonight. This man is your relative, and he has a daughter named Sarra. »Entering Ecbatane, Tobias said to Raphael:« Azarias, my brother, lead me straight to our brother Ragouël. Raphael therefore took him to Ragouel's. They found him seated at the entrance to the courtyard and greeted him first. He answered them: “Great joy to you, brothers, welcome! And he brought them into his house. Tobias and Raphael took a bath, they washed themselves, before taking their places for the meal. Then, Tobias said to Raphael: “Azarias, my brother, asks Ragouël to give me in marriage Sarra my relative. "Ragouël heard these words and said to the young Tobias:" Tonight, eat, drink, have a good time: you alone have the right to marry my daughter Sarra, and I myself do not have the power to give her. to another man, since you are my next of kin. However, I must tell you the truth, my child: I gave her in marriage to seven of our brothers, and they died that very night, just as they were going to approach her. But now, my child, eat and drink: the Lord will intervene on your behalf. Tobias replied, "I will not eat or drink anything until you make a decision about me." »Ragouël said to him:« Very well! it is given to you in marriage according to the decree of the Book of Moses; it is a judgment from heaven that has granted it to you. So take your sister. Because, from now on, you are her brother and she is your sister. From today it is given to you forever. May the Lord of heaven watch over you tonight, my child, and fill you with his mercy and peace! "
Ragouël called Sarra, who came towards him. He took his daughter's hand and gave her to Tobit, saying: "Take her away: according to the Law and the decree recorded in the Book of Moses, she is given to you to wife." Take her and drive her in good health to your father. And may the God of heaven guide you in peace! Then he called his wife and told her to bring a sheet on which he wrote the marriage certificate, according to which he gave Sarra to Tobias according to the decree of the law of Moses. After that, we began to eat and drink. Ragouël addressed his wife Edna: "Go and prepare the second room, my sister, and you will take our daughter there." She went to prepare the bed in the bedroom, as Ragouël had requested, led her daughter there and wept over her. Then she wiped away her tears and said, “Trust me, my daughter! May the Lord of heaven turn your pain into joy! Trust, my daughter! Then she withdrew.
When Sarra's parents left the room and closed the door, Tobie got out of bed and said to Sarra, “Get up, sister. Let us pray, and ask our Lord to fill us with his mercy and his salvation. She stood up, and they began to pray and ask for salvation. Tobias began thus: “Blessed are you, God of our fathers; blessed be your name in all generations, forever. May the heavens bless you and all your creation for ever. It is you who made Adam; you gave him help and support: Eve, his wife. And from both of them the human race was born. It was you who said: “It is not good that the man is alone. I will make him a helper similar to him. ” Also, it is not for an illegitimate union that I am taking my sister here, but in the truth of the Law. Deign to have mercy on me and her, and lead us together in old age. "Then they said with one voice," Amen! Amen! And they went to bed for the night.

- Word of the Lord.

"He is not the God of the dead, but of the living"

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Mark (12, 18-27)
At that time, the Sadducees - those who claim that there is no resurrection - came to find Jesus. They questioned him, “Teacher, Moses commanded us: If a man has a brother who dies leaving a wife, but no child, he must marry the widow to raise offspring to his brother. There were seven brothers; the first married, and died leaving no descendants. The second married the widow, and died leaving no descendants. The third likewise. And none of the seven left offspring. And last, after all of them, the woman also died. In the resurrection, when they are resurrected, which of them will she be the bride, since the seven had her for a bride? "Jesus said to them:" Are you not going astray, ignoring the scriptures and the power of God? When we rise from the dead, we take neither wife nor husband, but we are like the angels in heaven. And about the fact that the dead are raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, at the story of the burning bush, how God said to him: I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You go completely astray. " You go completely astray. " You go completely astray. "

MASS READINGS, General Week 9th - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 2, 2021

FIRST READING

"The prayer of one and the other was brought in the presence of the glory of God where it was heard"

A Reading from the book of Tobit (3, 1-11.16-17a)
In those days, with death in my soul, I, Tobith, moaned and wept; then, in the midst of my groans, I began to pray: “You are righteous, Lord, all your works are righteous, all your ways, mercy and truth; it is you who judges the world. And now, Lord, remember me and see: do not punish me for my sins, my errors, nor for those of my fathers, who sinned before you and refused to hear your commandments. You delivered us to plunder, to deportation and to death, to be the fable, the laughing stock, the sarcasm of all the nations where you have disseminated us. And even now, the many judgments that you bring against me are true, for my sins and those of my fathers, for we have not kept your commandments nor walked in the truth before you. And now, act with me as you please, order that my breath be taken back, so that I disappear from the face of the earth and become, myself, earth. For me, it is better to die than to live, for I have heard lying insults, and I am overwhelmed with sadness. Lord, command me to be delivered from this adversity; let me go into the eternal abode, and do not turn your face away from me, Lord. Because, for me, better to die than to endure so many adversities throughout life. Thus, I will no longer have to hear such insults. »But that day, Sarra, the daughter of Ragouël of Ecbatane in Media, was also insulted by a young servant of her father: she had been married seven times, and Asmodeus, the worst demon, killed husbands before they approached her. So the maid said to Sarra: "It was you who killed your husbands!" Here are already seven to whom you were given in marriage, and none of them have you been named. Why whip us on the pretext that your husbands are dead? Go join them: may we never see a son or a daughter of you! That day Sarra, heartbroken, began to cry. And she went up to the upper room of her father's house with the intention of hanging herself. But, on reflection, she said to herself: “Well, no!
